Re: Bear, I'm guessing they're offering a 3 year, low AAV deal. Pitch to him is he gets security/stability for a few years while he proves himself so he can hit UFA ahead of his age 29 season and get a big payout (if he continues to develop). For the Caps, if he hits he becomes a key part of the right side on D in the future along with Iorio. If he doesn't, the cap hit won't be too bad and he comes off the books the same time as our other big contracts.

Yea I'm perfectly fine with taking on more Dman under 30. All of our right defensemen are over thirty.

3 year deal for a bottom pair RHD that’ll clog up the pipeline for Iorio and Chesley. Love that. Unless we move on from Jensen; Bear would be a poor signing.

Wasn’t it a big deal when Ted finally got to buy the wizards that he got a stake in the arena why would he want to leave? He waited out old Abe to die a long time to get that deal.

Sidenote, it’s $20 a month or $200 a season to subscribe to monumental sports net work. Crazy how much he’s charging
ESPN Plus is 110 a year. It's totally worth it coz you get so much more.

I don’t know much about Ethan Bear, but I don’t like his agent going public in a bidding war in December for a free agent. Dude just sign and start playing stop tweeting contract demands.
I wonder whether the agent went public because Caps' interest in the guy has waned a bit? Regardless of their successful weekend, their d situation hasn't changed (age and performance-wise) and a little extra depth at a relatively low cost is good to have for the future. Not sure that anybody will be blocked by this move if it happens, so far Carbs and presumably BMac are making mostly performance-based decisions for the roster and ice time.

Sign Bear, ship Jensen out at the deadline for a pick. Trade for Vrana and get a pick back for taking his salary. Still plenty of cap room to retain on a soaring Mantha to acquire a high pick. Our offense is trash, worst that happens is Vrana bombs out and you bury him in Hershey. Best thing, maybe he's rejuvenated by being around the boys and regains his form. He's still only 27.

I'd add one thing to that: act as a retention partner in deadline rental trades. We ought to be able to pick up a couple of prospects or picks by selling some cap space.

Mantha's scoring at a 25+ goal pace and comes off the books this summer. Just keep him

Find a trade partner for Kuzy if you can manage to unload him... need to open up a spot for Lappy next year: Strome-McM-Lappy-Dowd down the middle.

I may be the only one but I don’t think Lapierre has demonstrated much at the NHL level.

If mantha keeps this current pace up, he absolutely gets sent packing at the deadline.

I don't understand how someone who has watched even one Blues game this year can genuinely want to acquire Vrana. He doesn't even pretend to be interested in playing when he doesn't have the puck, and even when he does, he looks lost 90% of the time. He can shot and skate fast. At the moment, he's 10 times worse version of Sprong, who has a better shot, is more effective in limited ice time, and despite all his limitations, at least gives the impression of someone who's thinking about defense (even though he can't defend).

Probably, at least, our future backup.

Unless somebody else jumps off the maps in the next year or two like Gibby or Clark I'd probably say future starter or at least he'll be given the chance to be. He's got the size, style and poise to be an NHL goalie. That and a sweet ass nickname (Mud). lol
