I agree there but there has to be some other moving part. They aren't signing Bear just to scratch him, so one of their top 6 would have to exit in one way or another. But aside from Carlson every one of their top 6 D-men was either recently traded for or recently signed an extension so it's tough to figure out who would be the odd man out.

We're missing something. Friedman isn't one to report the Caps are making a run at him without some good intel.
The reason to sign Bear would be to get younger. And pick up a free piece since he is unsigned. But yeah, that would require a corresponding move of Jensen or TVR.

Why is Ethan Bear unsigned? That is surprising. Was he hurt?

An extended TVR or Jensen could be more coveted by someone else…..that we extended them makes neither untouchable in a bigger deal IMO.

He's coming back from shoulder surgery.

I feel like he'd be a downgrade from either Jensen or TVR.

Agree it would be a downgrade. But he can be 3RD.

The play would be to get younger and cheaper versus immediate upgrade. Get one asset for free and get value for the outgoing. Could Jensen + be enough for top 6 forward coming back?

Why would they trade away a top 6 forward for Jensen instead of just signing Bear themselves? Maybe there's somebody out there who needs an RD but doesn't have the cap space?

Because Bear doesn’t want to go to our potential trade partner city? Because Jensen is better for the team acquiring him? But the PLUS part that @DWGie26 mentions, you’re ignoring in your response….and that’s more likely the heavy cost for us….

I'm not ignoring it. Just asking questions, because I have no idea.

I agree it just usually doesn't happen that a guy extends and then 6 months later gets traded.

Jensen would probably be who I trade. He's been rough this year and I'm not sure his playing style translates well into older age. TVR has been solid once again this year and his versatility is needed in case of injury.

I mean….GMBM has seemingly exhausted all other realistic options and can’t get a big deal done, so this should surprise nobody really. I’d say both guys are in the “I’d prefer not to trade them, unless it was for a clear upgrade” category….

Of course. I have no problem trading either for the right deal. It's a business and the Capitals signed them both to market-value extensions so they should be fair game to trade. If they can lure Ethan Bear to play for them then Washington needs to exercise all options to improve their forward corps.

Jensen to Vancouver for Kuzmenko would be a very interesting trade and one Washington could really improve with. As mentioned Kuzmenko is still producing (boxcars and GARs) so I hardly think he was a flash in the pan, even if 39 goals is unlikely again. Jensen would also allow Vancouver to further shelter (or jettison) Tyler Myers while giving them about $1.5M more of cap flexibility. Kaprizov is likely a pipe dream but I'm of course down for it if they can swing that trade as well.

Kaprizov? Holy shit CCR swings for the fences lol. Minny look like they will miss the playoffs this year and need goaltending, but Kaprizov is a major talent and I'd be amazed if they traded him (would be awesome if they did though!)

Kuzmenko definitely a move I'd like to see. Clearly there's discontent in Vancouver so a move could be what's needed to spark him.

Why not dream big! Maybe Jensen, Milano, and a third next year? Or one of our seconds in 2025. Milano is a good piece on term controlled friendly contract as well.

Not nearly enough…one or two young guys we like might be gone the other way…

Maybe a young gun like Lapierre or mcmichael?

That’s a start…

The caps really aren't in a position to trade a center prospect for a wing. They have plenty of top 6 wing prospects, but outside of lapierre and mcmichael there is no one in the system that can come close to being a top six center.

I am so impressed with CMM, AP, and Lapi (sent down). That Calder Cup playoff run really helped them reach a new level in development and confidence. I was hoping before this season that one of them would become top-six players long-term, but I think we can comfortably say that all three of them could very well be really solid top-six players long-term (with continued development and play). A shame Lapi was sent down (but, more minutes the better for him right now), but I am a bit worried AP will be pushed back to the fourth line when MaxPax is healthy. He has really, really blossomed in a top-nine role and needs to remain on a scoring line to be as effective as he can be and continue to grow his offensive game.

Carbs has been a godsend for our young talent.

Yeah, we may like McMichael and Lapierre but let's not act like their value is sky-high around the league. They may become potential top-6 players one day but if we're talking Kaprizov? You are likely looking at trading one of those, plus high upcoming picks on top of Leonard.

Kaprizov is apparently playing injured so why would the Wild sell him low now? He's signed through eternity and he doesn't even have trade protection so he couldn't bring his trade value down by requesting a trade and ruling out teams. You'd be looking at a huge bidding war and a sky-high price for one of the best wingers in the game.

I wish, though. Put Jensen, 2024 1st, Lapierre, McMichael all in the deal and if the Wild take the bait i'd drive all of them to the airport myself.

That's a lot of assets to spend on a 5th rounder :help:

Let's plan out a trade for mcdavid while we're at it.

Bear is a free agent. Don’t need to trade for him. I still don’t get where he fits. And we still have a pretty crowded 23 man roster with Pacioretty returning too.

Johansen is a goner, is AA getting waived too? NAK back to Hershey? Trade Milano before his chia pet night?? Jensen for a pick?

What spots do they even have for both Bear and Pacioretty?
