So patches hit all his incentives, right? Are the caps in position to apply the bonus overages to this years cap? Or do they need to wait until next year and apply the 2m? Not sure how that works with LTIR space being used.

they can do either. Depends on how much we end up retaining. Depends on Kuzy contract. But we have the option play. Won’t hurt us if we need to take it next year. We have $17M between Kuzy and Backstrom. Maybe $4M ish on Kuzy buyout. Mantha gone so another 5.7M. We will have plenty of cap space next year.

I doubt it, maybe LITRd though. I hope he gets 1,000 games and then calls it. His body can’t take that level of abuse anymore

Considering he can barely play without getting injured by just skating down the ice, I have my doubts.
I think the point is “why retire and leave 5.75m on the table?”
Why? He gets LTIR’d and the team can use it anyway.
No way should he retire. Would you? And leave almost 6m — for 12mo of effort — just sitting there?

Right, that's when his contract ends. So that's when he will retire. Whether he is actually playing or on ltir is a different story

GMBM doesn't get enough credit for finessing Strome and Sandin last year. Hopefully the next trick will be collecting on the Edmundsen investment.
Per capfriendly.com's incredible buyout tool, it would reduce his cap hit from 7.8m to 3.8m (4m less) for 24-25 but then add a 2.0m cap hit for 25-26.
To me, that's worth it even with the 2.0 penalty in 25-26.
I don't expect us to be cap strapped next year. Curious why would you initiate the buyout vs leaving him in the AHL until he sick of it and mutually terminates?

If the money's available and using it wouldn't have a significant negative effect on one or two big FA acquisitions, AND Kuzy is having a net negative impact on his Hershey teammates, buying him out could be for the good of the organization.
Well, lucky for us, we've got plenty of time before buyouts become available again to find out what kind of impact Kuzy will have in Hershey (both on ice and in the locker room).
Because I expect us to have even more cap flexibility in 25-26 (Backstrom's off the books and LTIR still causes headaches during the summer), and it would still be nice to have more space in 24-25 to create flexibility. For instance, if a team is willing to move on from a DeBrincat because of cap reasons, we need to have cap space available to pounce.
I don't see any big FA acquisitions in our near future. That's not really how BMac intends to rebuild the team from his comments over his tenure here. That and most big time UFAs probably have no desire to go to a team in rebuild mode. As for him being a negative impact to him teammates in Hershey that's to be seen. I just don't see what we gain from buying him out until there's a reason besides it's what he wants.
