I wouldn’t be worrried about retaining long term on Jensen if it means returning something nice.

Like if we’re using two retention slots of Jensen and Dowd and it means returning 1sts for both of them, yeah screw it I’m in

I don't get the hype for Noah Hanifin. He's a good second pairing dude but Washington needs a #1D. Hard pass.

No one's getting any term with Hannifin this year, so why would a tweener (at best) team like the Caps make a deal for him, unless we knew we could lock him up.

He is also a $5M guy and 27 so he wants more and a long contract. So unless we lock him up then no. He would have to be a number 1 for us and move Fever to 3.

According to the athletic, his market value is $9m. He just turned down an 8 year offer from Calgary, so I'm assuming he isn't going to be cheap.

Maybe not, but the last 11 probably has. Right now he is statistically more around the middle of the pack while he was among the top goaltenders earlier in the season.

What team in need of a goalie would go for him?
For Toronto Woll have been solid and even Martin Jones have around the same save % and both have better goals save above expected according to moneypuck.

Hes down around the same save % as the Edmonton goalies aswell. They might give it a go, but Lindgren's recent form isnt promising.

Then you have NJD, but I doubt they will give much if they trade as they might not make the playoffs.

Thats pretty much the potential playoffs team where the talk around goalies have been. Dont see any of them give a 1st for Lindgren.

Lindgren doesnt have a record from earlier to lean on either as he really havent been playing NHL before he joined Caps.
Incorrect. Lindgren had a 14 game stint with the Habs in which he had a .908 SV%, the team where he got his first chance in the NHL.

Because they would have assurances he would sign, seems clear that Hanifin wants to come back East and get out of Western Canada

That’s the only reason we would trade for him if we wanted a head start on signing him.

But he’s gonna get like $7-8 million. Is he that good? Maybe but that’s not a very sexy signing. He’s good, but I’m not sure he moves the needle much when we desperately need scoring

"We got the funk, gotta have that Funk!"
Caps signed an undrafted forward, who plays both wings, Zac Funk? He had 99 points for the Prince George Cougars in the WHL?

I think he’s a top pairing at least. What do the fancies say?

It depends on if you believe this year and two years ago are his norm, or the rest of his career is the norm:

He just doesn't profile as a guy to pay up for. A lot of very mediocre seasons and two good ones. I don't tend to believe he's as good as he's played this season. Probably not as bad as his replacement level seasons either. Micah estimates him as a second pairing guy right now and I agree with that assessment.

The Capitals need star talent or guys who can grow into that role, and I don't see Hanifin as that guy.

I think we disagree about what a record of playing is that he can lean on. I dont think 14 games in 17/18 which is less games than a backup gets is a record to lean on. The next 3 years before joining Caps he had 1, 5 and 6 games. Before he joined the Caps he had 29 NHL games. Also 0.908 wasnt a very good save % in 17/18 where save % was higher. Of goalies with 12 games or more he tanks 42 of 68.

Caps need some top 4D. And they have space to sign one. Hanifan is a good player. Add him to Sandin (and Carlson for the next couple of years), and the team is far far deeper than it’s been. Even can then trade out Jensen or TVR (plus Edmundson).

Would leave:

Carlson, Hanifan, Sandin, Fehervary, Jensen/TVR, Alexeyev, Bear, Hershey or Vet UFA from summer ‘24.

Solidifies the D. And rest of monies can be found for forwards (big C “get”)

Nobody knows anything about this Zac Funk guy?
Every NHL team passed on him in 3 drafts, but he had a breakout season this year. His skating and puck handling are below average for the NHL. He'll probably spend some time in Hershey. From what I read, CHL free agents (kids aging out of junior hockey without being drafted) usually take a few years to develop if they ever make the NHL.

Meh I guess so, but it basically admits the Sandin acquisition wasn’t worth the 1st, I’d rather just stick with Fehervary/Sandin has top 4 LD. Bridge Sandin and continue to give him the minutes. Find a solid bottom pair LD

Wow… that was quick. So he now counts against the Cap or does that happen when he is cleared to play? He is not on CF yet. And funny enough, Mantha is our second highest paid roster forward behind OV. Haha.
