Didn't notice it at the time but Carlson didn't play the last ~6 minutes of the game. That's sort of what you get for drastically overplaying him all year long. It's a wonder he hasn't had more games like, where you could tell from the very first shift going back for a retrieval he didn't really have it. They need Jensen back ASAP to have any slim shot.

Mantha, Ovechkin & Strome also didn't play the last ~5 minutes. A poor showing by the core vets for sure.

Why play him any of them the end when the game is a laughable blow out? If the game was 3-3 I'm sure they'd all have been in there.

Mantha will go back to being Mantha next season.

His shooting percentage is very high this season and he's clearly having a contract year. Even in his contract year he's on pace for... 45 points.

How do we replace a middle six winger with no grit, inconsistency problems and injury problems? I'd say we can replace him quite easily. Mantha blows.
Agree to disagree?

Rumors have been picking up. We can see who wants our trade bait now

Oilers named for Dowd and Mantha. I dont think they can afford Mantha. So its just Dowd on that nice contract.

They can fit Mantha, retain 50% and find another team to take 50%. Or they can send down Holloway, waive Gagner, waive Brown…they have ways to make cap if they want these two

Oilers Nation article today regarding one stop shop with the Capitals Potential one-stop shops for the Oilers ahead of the trade deadline

Article notes that besides Dowd and Mantha other players of interest could be Edmundson, Lindgren and it even mentions Beck Malenstyn.

Oilers do have their first and second picks this coming draft. Cap Friendly indicates that their current roster is at 21 and total contracts at 46.

Probably b/c we are a bad hockey team with a 0.00005% chance to advance out of the 1st round, and our prospect pool is limited.
I hear you on that but if BMac keeps telling the core they are going to try to remain competitive it doesn’t make sense to me. I’m fine with rebuilding but it doesn’t line up to me. Let’s trade good players on great contracts doesn’t seem to mesh with that.

Given their contracts and current play, Dowd and Lindgren are probably valued at an all time high right now. I don’t mind keeping them but those two also get hurt fairly often given their playing styles so I might just cash in now…

Looks to be Saros, Markstrom and Gibson(trade rumors are dead now) are off the table. Lindgren has great value now and if Kuemper can pick things up a bit(ignoring Scott Murray's coaching) he could grab some trade attention(I feel he could return a 2nd + bad contract(if part of salary cap hit is retained)).

Leafs could be off the goalie trade market with Woll back now and looking better than Samsonov. I feel Leafs will stick with Woll as the #1, Sammy as the #2 and Jones as the #3. I could see a bidding war for Lindgren( I would say in no particular order, Kings, Oilers, Devils, Bolts(a backup for Vasilevskiy) and Redwings). As much as I wouldn't like to seem him go, it opens the door for Shep/Stevenson to battle for a spot next season.

Why are we trading Dowd given he is on a sweet contract and how important he is to the team?
People are fantasizing about getting a first for Dowd. I mean I’d do it for a first, buts it’s super duper highly unlikely.

They’re doing it for Lindgren too, who’s rocking a .908 save percentage and has never played more than 31 games in a season.

Maybe package Dowd/Lindgren together for a '24 1st + '25 3rd + forward prospect? That .908 dropped from .914 off of one game where Lindgren was terribly left out on his own giving up 8 goals against the Wings! Other teams GM's will look at that as an outlier and be looking at Lindgren's overall play throughout the season. Lindgren has a strong case for being the Caps MVP this season.

I’d do it, but it just seems so so optimistic.

Orlov + Hathaway got a 1st (very late) + 2nd + 3rd + Cap Dump (what’s his face)

Orlov had a track record and ability that Lindgren or Dowd can’t even sniff.

You gotta trade good to get good. Nobody is giving us stars for bums.

Dowd has great value, on a great contract, but let’s not forget he’s still a bottom 6 guy on good team (who is playing a lot more because we don’t have a strong top-6 2-way C anymore). He’s also 34 in May, so if someone offers a 1st (or a 2nd and/or a solid prospect), you gotta cash in IMO.

Dowd isn’t a guy they should be retooling round….sell high (if you can), bring in more talented top-6 players. If not, hold him until next year.

Just remember something. Dowd is not worth a 1st but in a bidding war, he might be able to get a 1st from a top 10 team. For instance the Oilers might want to go for it, and acquiring both Dowd and Lindgren(both would give their team depth that they are lacking), they could be more willing to give up their 1st round pick.

If my GM spent a 1st on a backup and a 4C I’d be furious.

I guess with Holland there’s a chance.

Orlov was our top 2-way d-man. Lindgren is our top goalie that can steal games. That is something to Kuzy sniff about it!

This is a weak draft. 22 to 32 probably have a big drop off in designated NHL 1st line talent. In that range number, the talent probably equates to 2nd/3rd line players or players who take a longer time to develop.

That’s a bit of a stretch.

Lindgren being a high end goalie is not backed up by stats or history. And apparently he has played in one less game than Kuemper, so his claims as our starter are only for a few months of play.

I think Lindgren would be a smart savvy pickup for a lot of teams, but if you’re looking to go on a cup run you don’t want him to be your #1.
