Back would be upper body no? Waist down lower waist up upper I'm pretty sure is all they go by.
Groing is typically lower body so upper body probably does mean back. Gonna hurt have Oshie out for a long stretch. Wonder if we can LTIR him so we can bring in more Cap for picks.

There is nothing else in my life where I always immediately fear for the worst like when Oshie is on the ice. Go to the doctor, take my dog to the vet, fear nothing, but Oshie down after non contact? I assume Achilles, ACL+MCL, my wife is literally patting me on the back like a meme.

Dunno. I guess?

If you believe this guy...

The lower back is considered lower body. But if you ask Dr ChatGPT:

It could be his back.

It's weird because he seemed to be sitting up fairly normally when shifting along the bench at the end, but was stooped over sideways when being helped to the dressing room.

He was trying to backhand against his body and his momentum while turning. He was also trying to lift the puck deep and whiffed on it. My guess would be somehting got pulled or slipped out of whack on that right side of the back and it could be anywhere up the chain.

I'm dealing with a back/psoas/ab/? issue on the same side rn so I feel this.

Here's the vid with him crawling on the ice. Not to be morbid, but the more you watch you more you can imagine a slipped disc or something.

Get well soon, Oshbabe

Man, again kinda morbid, but you'd also wish Oshie would make the same decisions Nick did. It's hard to watch a guy ruining his body on the ice past his time.

Did we hang on to anyone we should have traded at last years deadline ? Kuzy and Mantha not withstanding. I remember we lost a lot of games so the writing was on the wall, unlike this year where we seem to be playing our best right now.

Oh yeah that's def a back injury. I've had debilitating back spasms multiple times (I've figured it out now after diligent physical therapy with a great PT for 6 months, thank goodness) and anything that uses core strength is excruciating. Looks like a back injury to me, hopefully muscular despite the pain.

Aside from doing a full sell-off I think we moved everyone we should have except the Mantha and Kuzy trades that just couldn’t get done. We had just resigned TVR and Jensen. We were never going to trade JC74, Oshie, OV, Backstrom regardless of what some people want.

I dealt with a lot of back issues when I was playing basketball which causes a lot of spinal compressions. I went through a crazy few months of chiropractic work and haven’t had any real issues in 30 years. Back pain will definitely make a grown man cry. It sucks. I imagine we’ll be hearing about him going to STL unless it happens very quietly.

gotta be his back….anyone who has had a back seize up knows that sight. I had a buddy who bent over to tie his shoe, locked up exactly like that, couldn’t move, needed paramedics to administer morphine before they could get him on the gurney…
Yup. I couldn't even sit on the toilet without busting into tears.

God forbid I felt a sneeze coming.

twabby coming to a ledge near you re: extending Mantha. And, I mean, it is hard to fathom getting better value if he'd accept something like 2x5. No idea if he's prepared to do that. I'd wager the opportunity in higher exposure circumstances is too tempting but he does sort of owe them. Under Carbery it seems like a good fit. It could go a lot worse for him. You never know.

Some Mantha talk at the 44 minute mark on the 32T pod. DET/EDM mentioned for obvious reasons. EDM seems like a great fit but I believe it's dollar-in, dollar-out for them.

Right. The decision already seems to be made that they are retooling vs rebuilding. You can make a good argument that this is the wrong decision, but regardless that decision appears to be made.

Given that, we saw how difficult it was for MacLellan to swing a trade for a top 6 forward this past offseason. So the calculus becomes: do the assets returned from a Mantha trade help get a player as good Mantha? If it's a first round pick then sure I can see it. But if GMs are still a bit wary on Mantha and only pony up like a second round pick or two then I don't see how trading Mantha does anything for the retool since they'll be needing a replacement for him anyways. Not like they have an internal option to replace him.

In regards to Oshie, he went down after he spun clockwise which opens up the hip to groin and or low back issues.

Speaking from experience like many of you, I hurt my low back literally picking up 20lbs of weight and for context I (used to) deadlift 405 with a trap bar. I was 33 when I hurt myself and I’m 36 now. My chiro said my sacrum shifts pretty easily, plus I have two slipped discs which only cause me pain If I reinjure my back. My back really only gets reinjured when my sacrum moves too far to my left side and this provides extreme compression to my discs.

All of this to say, the worst pain I ever experienced was doing a step back jump shot which opened my hips similar to the way Oshie spun. It sounds hilarious and it kind of was for me, I went down like a sack of potatoes and drug my leg to my car. My fiancé had to help me out of my car I couldn’t lift myself up. I missed work and could barely walk for days until my chiro could see me.

Suffice to say I’m sure whatever TJ has injured is much worse than my experience but a low back injury would look par for the course since the the hip/low back/groin all intersect tissue at that hip joint.

You also don't want to be the wildcard team every year and draft 15th. You'll never be able to acquire top end talent to be a real contender. Let us not forget the two guys who saved this franchise, turned DC into a hockey town and created the dynasty were rapidly approaching the end of were drafted #1 and #4 overall. You don't do that with a bunch of 15th-18th overall picks.
Match point right here

Looks like lower-back to me. Knees don't buckle so not those thankfully. Looks like a muscle pull/strain or disc slip. Been there/ done that. Almost feels like instant paralysis. Like an electric shock going up the spine and everything motor-related stops.

As have I. Good old Sciatica. I've triggered such moments in odd ways, sneezing, unknowingly stepping off a curb or in a small hole while mowing the lawn and the best one was removing the turkey from the refrigerator Thanksgiving morning. Getting out of bed was always a chore and then getting those electric impulses going down the legs was also an experience. Had to have cortisone shots in the lower back to relieve the pain.

Not sure what the nature of Oshie's injury is though.

Last time I jacked up my back was when I was recovering from covid and sitting at my work desk. I simply sneezed and jacked it up.

I said F THIS, committed to 6-8 months of physical therapy with a fantastic PT (helps junior olympic weightlifters) and have been fantastic ever since. I simply wasn't bracing my core correctly - when lifting or in every day life. I implement anti-rotation exercises in just about every workout now and I am back to back squatting, front squatting, and hex bar deadlifting completely pain free.

Please try a long period of committed PT if you haven't. There's no reason we should have to go through life constantly terrified to bend over or pick anything up. I'm 30 right now btw.

On today's Jeff Marek Show, they talk more about the Caps at the end of the episode. Specifically interesting was Elliot suggesting that the Caps may trade a goaltender, as Stevenson is ready for the NHL.
Damnit I picked him up earlier this season in my dynasty league but dropped him shortly after. UGH.

Loving Clay's progression, but I don't think we can says he's ready for the NHL (as a FT backup) until he's gotten some games in (maybe 10-20)?

I don't know if he'll make it in the NHL, but I don't think he's got a lot more to learn in the AHL. He turns 25 next week, so he's as ready as he'll ever be to play in the NHL.
