You didn't know a player could get fined for "inappropriate" comments?

Yah considering most NHL players are playing their position far longer than that
You want a center in each of the first 4 rounds? That's not how you draft though. You need at least some semblance of BPA.
I also didn’t know I said that. Must’ve forgotten making that post. SorryYou didn't know a player could get fined for "inappropriate" comments?
Laviolette's comments are infuriating. I know it's his player but come on. Acting like it was nothing at all? Should've been more of a no comment statement.
Wilson is never going to stop. He's never going to change. He's unhinged and in the moment he doesn't respect his opponents or care about safety at all. Caps fans want to say "Panarin jumped on his back so he deserved it" when we've seen countless plays similar to this where the players just lock up and hug each other - not rip your opponents helmet off, pull his hair and slam him head first onto the ice helmetless and punch him at least once while there. This after starting the whole thing by punching a prone player in the back of the head who is already face down on the ice with a stick around his neck.
The NHLPA defends Wilson but what kind of precedent does it set that they defend one of their members who is actively trying to injure other members? Panarin is one of the top stars in the league and Wilson literally could've ended his career or even killed him. That's not even hyperbole to say.
What needs to happen here? He needs to be suspended for the remainder of this season, including the playoffs at a minimum. If anything that would be light and he should be looking at a 50 game suspension or something that is the NHL effectively dropping the hammer on him. Of course it's the NHL so he'll get suspended the rest of the regular season and that's it.
If I am the Rangers coach, and the league does nothing about Wilson. I tell my guys that the only thing that matters on weds is going after backstrom, Carlson, and ovechkin if he plays. Stick fouls, cheap shots, all acceptable. Let the league deal with the ramifications of turning a blind eye on the national broadcast.
This is the exact reason fighting and enforcers will always be a big part of hockey. Our team is certainly missing that kind of player.

Agree with everything here but my sense is the NHL will defend the actions of Wilson by saying he was only defending himself and it's not his fault Panrian is around 40 pounds lighter than him. Look I respect what Panarian did last night but if you put yourself in that situation you better be able to defend yourself. Anyone whose played hockey knows that. You don't enter the fray unless you can defend yourself and are willing to risk injury. Panarian 100% did the right thing but I would have rather him tried to take Wilson down by pushing on the back of his knee or doing something like that rather than jump on his back. I'm not advocating for dirty plays but again- you need to know the tricks of the trade to take a guy down that's much bigger than you.
My hunch is the league won't do much and likely won't even suspend him a game. It's the wrong call but I'd be more surprised if they did anything/

Everything you've said is valid right up until the moment Wilson grabs Panarin by the hair and brings him to the ice. Guys wanna wrestle, punch, grab, whatever but what Wilson did goes beyond the other guy needing to defend himself.
In today's NHL that scrum ends in hugging 99% of the time when it doesn't involve a rage-blind lunatic. Panarin didn't attempt to rough Wilson up, face wash him, or anything of the sort. He tried to lock the guy up and Wilson was in a blind rage. Can only imagine what the reaction would be if Panarin stood by and refused to initiate any sort of contact. Panarin's actions are 0% at fault in this situation.
I'm not troglodyte or Larry Brooks but this has to be another Henrik-Eakin situation.
Season is over. There's nothing but pride and the fans left even if that sounds like marketing. As an organization and a locker room, someone has to step up and deliver a cheap shot to one of their players. You can't take this laying down. You don't recover from that just like in the Henrik situation. Teammates lose trust and respect for one and another. You have a room full of kids that are being led by a weak coach that has shown little control and leadership in the room. Smitty or someone should take one for the team here.
Are you f***ing kidding me?!?!?!?!
