He also needs to not be so soft. Can't coach that. Watched him just skate away while a Caps player was standing over Igor.

I'm way more concerned about his handling of the puck and his decision-making than his softness.

Another moment that pissed me off was later in the game that was already lost after Shesty makes and save and holds for the whistle, Hathaway gets essentially on top of him and stays there. No one comes near...I believe at least Jones was in the vicinity. (but I'll give him a pass for now)

Top to bottom the Caps team know they can all chase us around the rink, part 2 coming up lol
I missed it but someone mentioned Miller skating away too like nothing happened. I get being a bit passive, but c'mon you don't need to punch or facewash, but at least push the guy off or hug them and pull them away. Comes off as weak and timid.

And Miller still randomly struggles to accept and give basic passes at times, he's pretty lucky they usually don't end up in the back of the net, just a blown play. Smith does it one time and it's right in the back of the net lol

Ovechkin's apologism for Wilson should also end anyone's desire to for him to break the Greatest One's records. Any of them.

F Ovechkin if he supports that douche one more single second.

He must have forgotten his height and weight.

I bet nothing happens and the NHL will suspend Rangers fans instead :sarcasm::help::popcorn:

NHL better need to make a statement. the time to do so is now. make Tom Wilson an example

Quinn needs to pull a Torts, line brawl to start the game. Call up guys from Hartford, whatever it takes. We can't stand for this if Wilson isn't suspended next game.

I remember the Islanders doing that to the Rangers. Puck dropped and every Islander dropped their gloves and started swinging.

Did any of the so called journalists that cover this team ask Laviolette about the Wilson incident or did they just forget?
Here ya go

Capitals coach Peter Laviolette didn't think there was anything out of the ordinary during the second-period incident. "I thought it was just a scrum. Physical play. There was something going on originally with the goalie and jamming at the goalie. We had a bunch of players jump in there. It happens a lot," he said.

Rangers coach David Quinn says Tom Wilson crossed line injuring Artemi Panarin

I say he's suspended for the first round of the
PO's. He's a ratings getter. It's like the Howard Stern thing, the people that hate him listen even longer because they want to hear what he'll say next.

Rangers will need to add an old time hockey player to their roster.

Otherwise, teams will continue to take runs at the skilled players.

Sean Avery types that can play and mix it up. The night Carcillo went after Gaborik, Avery made sure to threaten that team to a point where he said he would end Giroux. He also answered the bell. You need guys like that. Can’t have the youngest team in hockey and expect not to be abused nightly. Management welcomes it, and they obviously didn’t prioritize being a tougher team to play against nightly, whether it be with physicality or will.

But this is the problem with the thinking "bad thing happened once let's address it". That Carcillo fight happened with Avery there and it potentially cost us a 40 goal player because the team panicked and drafted McIlrath.

You don't draft guys like that in the first round but you have to find them someway.

Honestly this is probably an overreaction but I would draft a center in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th round and try to find Ryan Reaves/Ross Johnston type players in the 5th, 6th and 7th.

He is a rookie who came STRAIGHT FROM THE NCAA.
What does that have to do with being spineless and passive? I can see if the argument is about positioning and improving other aspects of the game, but being a passive player is something that is more of a personality trait than an ability. No doubt his basic game will get better, but I have serious doubts about his physicality since that is about mindset and not skill.

Teams need an enforcer. I don't mean a goon but a player that will have the player's backs.
I know many say it is no longer needed but I say BS ...yes it is.

Then why have they gone the way of the dinosaur?

You want skilled players who can stand up for themselves, not a grizzly bear on ice skates.

Laviolette's comments are infuriating. I know it's his player but come on. Acting like it was nothing at all? Should've been more of a no comment statement.

Wilson is never going to stop. He's never going to change. He's unhinged and in the moment he doesn't respect his opponents or care about safety at all. Caps fans want to say "Panarin jumped on his back so he deserved it" when we've seen countless plays similar to this where the players just lock up and hug each other - not rip your opponents helmet off, pull his hair and slam him head first onto the ice helmetless and punch him at least once while there. This after starting the whole thing by punching a prone player in the back of the head who is already face down on the ice with a stick around his neck.

The NHLPA defends Wilson but what kind of precedent does it set that they defend one of their members who is actively trying to injure other members? Panarin is one of the top stars in the league and Wilson literally could've ended his career or even killed him. That's not even hyperbole to say.

What needs to happen here? He needs to be suspended for the remainder of this season, including the playoffs at a minimum. If anything that would be light and he should be looking at a 50 game suspension or something that is the NHL effectively dropping the hammer on him. Of course it's the NHL so he'll get suspended the rest of the regular season and that's it.

You want a center in each of the first 4 rounds? That's not how you draft though. You need at least some semblance of BPA.

The way Kak and Laf slowed the entire game down on that play..... Jeeeeezus. And there were no scrubs out there for the caps.

I saw it in game one this season, Kak and Laf have natural chemistry from the get, with no real training camp or pre season, or actual time around each other.

Cannot wait for next season.

Grit? who says that's a thing of the past? Just ask the Lightning who got swept by Columbus in four straight games to open the PO's two years ago because they were man handled after posting one of the best records in the regular season. They added Coleman, Goodrow, Maroon and Schenn. Players that add some grit and toughness to a good group of skilled players and they won the cup. You can't have one without the other. Enough said.

Except that the way it works is that first you develop your skill players and when you feel you're ready to make a run, you augment your team like TB did.

The present Flyers are in no way like their predecessors.

yeah, i know. This version of creamsicles will jump over the boards for a conversation. The real Flyers are a bit different in defense of Clarke.

Right. Nothing will deter him but somebody on our roster needs to cheap shot him or Backstrom or Ovi.

I'd forget about Wilson unless you have someone who can legitimately challenge him.

Good luck going after Ovechkin. Remember when Svechnikov tried it?

Go after Backstrom, Carlson etc,.
