Then he can use the excuse that the team is too young and needs time to develop. Can't see why the Pens are inquiring
Holy cow…that guy is still in the league? I thought he washed out years ago. Had to check the Caps roster and see if that was the same dude the Rangers took way back when. Sure as hell is. 32 years old now…and a grand total of 85 NHL games played.Canucks need another RD - if it's WSH I wonder if they are floating Trevor Van Riemsdyck.
edit: At RD, he's buried under Carlson and Roy. Washington has McIlrath on the roster at RD, and they have a few guys in the minors with NHL experience (Bear, Iorio) who they could bring up to fill those extra minutes. This move makes Washington younger and more dynamic up front, while trading from a position of depth on the back-endd. Vancouver gets their stopgap RD to eat minutes until Hronek is back, and potentially into next year when Willander is ready.
The Canucks would have zero interest in this type of trade. From the Penguins POV, I think what makes the most sense is just trading Nieto and a pick (probably one of their 3rds) for Hoglander and worry about the Pettersson deal at the deadline. Nieto fits that kind of role Tocchet is using Hoglander in, so he can replace Hoglander as that 4th liner/HS player.
I can’t imagine that Hoglander is bringing back better than Nieto and a 3rd right now
Why bother coming to Pittsburgh under Sullivan???
We’re where offense and careers go to die…
but washington has no need for a forward unless you are taking sonny milano back.Canucks need another RD - if it's WSH I wonder if they are floating Trevor Van Riemsdyck.

Sonny makes sense if we are making a movebut washington has no need for a forward unless you are taking sonny milano back.
plus they have a very young forward group plus prospects in cristall, leonard and more
Pretty pathetic imagination in that case.
Anyways we all know it's going to be Marcus, not a 32yr old fourth liner Vancouver doesn't need at all, cmon now let's not waste time.
All teams are obv negotiating the + from both sides with multiple teams to get the best deals they can.
Canucks only really looking for a dman (2) right now so the rumored teams it's very likely:
Pittsburgh - M. Pettersson
Columbus - Provorov (Jiricek if possible, probably not)
Washington - one of their several U27 defensemen (hopefully Fehérváry but probably not)
Does Vancouver think they need a replacement forward in the return or would they be content with a organizational depth player as a fill in?
I agree that Hoglander is worth more than a 3rd and some bullshit like Nieto.Pretty pathetic imagination in that case.

The return for Hoglander is one of the 3rds and Nieto is going back for contract reasons,
Hoglander’s value is in the dumpster right now. He’s not the centerpiece for any deal for a defenseman improvement for the Canucks. He’s a throw in.
What makes Hoglander significantly more valuable than Tomisano? Consider he just went for a 2027 4th, a 2025 3rd for Hoglander seems pretty reasonable.
Me personally I'm much more interested in Lekkerimaki.
Then I don't think we're a good fit regarding Petts. He is absolutely one of the best available d-men out there. Pens have 1 retention slot left and can bring his cap hit down to $2mil pro-rated at the TDL. Dubas or not we expect to get a 1st round / Lekk level return for him.Lekk won't be moved unless it's in a package for a legit stud D-man in his prime (mid 20s).

That’s a bad deal for the Canucks trading a young player for a UFA who will carry an expensive contract. Hoglander is going to be a solid player for us, Garland was in a similar spot a few years ago, moving him then would look foolish now.Something based on Marcus Pettersson for Hoglander?
There are a lot of fans in Pittsburgh that get rock hard over the small and fiesty winger (we've had a few success stories to be fair) but I'm a bit of a size queen myself. Hoglander and his 1 season shooting at 20% do not enthuse me. Though Dubas can't do much of anything right so if that's the return we get for Petts, it also wouldn't surprise me.Don't blame you for wanting a late 1st for him but IMO Lekk has higher value than that (more like mid-1st, closer to where he was drafted).
And if I were the Pens, I rather have that late 1st over Hog, as well.
Nothing suggests that the Canucks are just looking to dump him at this point though. The return for Hoglander is one of the 3rds and Nieto is going back for contract reasons,

For your question of what makes him more valuable than tomosino it’s because he just came off a 25 goal season. (All even strength) this season has tanked his value but I’m curious his worth. He’s probably worth a 3rdThe Canucks not looking to dump him doesn’t mean he has notable value, though.
If you think you can get a 2nd or better for him, I understand holding onto him. I’d just be highly skeptical they’d be getting that. Hoglander isn’t in Nick Robertson territory but a guy not producing that has already signed a fairly expensive extension isn’t going to have much value
