So now that the deadline is past where does that put us in regards to performance bonuses?

After 41 games, pace needed for hard stats categories, forwards: 10G, 17.5A, 30P, 0.73PpGP

Necas: 11+21=32, 0.840PpGP, top-6 forwards ToI and leads in +/- with frigging +19! (top 3 forwards needed)
Svech: 10+18=28, 0.683PpGP, top-6 forwards ToI

After 41 games, pace needed for hard stats categories, defencemen: 5G, 12.5A, 20P, 0.49PpGP

Bean: 1+10=11, 0.268PpGP, no top-4 d-man ToI

-> Necas is on the pace to max out his $537.5k and it ain't even close, Svech is in pace for $425k but I expect him to pick up to max out his $850k A bonus. Bean is not doing much but could still get the assists. Currently we are on pace for ~$960k. Will go up to ~$1.4M if Svech picks up and maybe even ~$1.6M if Bean too picks up.

edit: Money numbers fixed, remembered Necas a $100k off.

Should Have Known:

NHL obviously had Transition Rules for the season 2020-21 similar to what they had in the MOTU of summer 2020.

https://media.nhl.com/site/asset/public/ext/2020-21/2020-21TransitionRulesCriticalDates.pdf

Rule 15 has the amended rules on the Exhibit 5 Performance Bonuses:

A Player shall be entitled to be paid only on account of the pro-rated performance threshold, and at the pro-rated rate calculated, for a performance bonus pursuant to these Transition Rules. For example, Player Z has a performance bonus for 2020-21 that would pay him $20,000 if he plays in 20 NHL Games. In accordance with the Transition Rules set forth herein, the bonus amount and the bonus threshold will be pro-rated such that if Player Z plays in 20*[56/82] NHL Games
during 2020-21, he would be paid $20,000*[56/82]. If Player Z plays in 20 games during 2020-21, he will be entitled only to a bonus amount of $20,000*[56/82] for achieving the 20*[56/82] NHL Game threshold. For purposes of clarity, he will not be entitled to any further bonus for achieving the 20 NHL Game threshold.

Statistical thresholds and bonus amounts for 2020-21 Regular Season Performance Bonuses and Exhibit 5 Performance Bonuses (paid by League and/or Club) shall be pro-rated by a factor of [56/82].

Where the Performance Bonus is based on multiple season thresholds, the thresholds and payment amounts shall be pro-rated as follows:

i) If the Player was a Roster Freeze Player* as defined in the 2020 MOU:
1) 3 year ELS SPC (double slide): [((82+82+82+70+56)/410)]*[threshold & amount]
2) 3 year ELS SPC (single slide): [((82+82+70+56)/328)]*[threshold & amount]
3) 3 year ELS SPC (no slide): [((82+70+56)/246)]*[threshold & amount]
4) 2 year ELS SPC: [((70+56)/164)]*[threshold & amount]

ii) If the Player was not a Roster Freeze Player as defined in the 2020 MOU:
1) 3 year ELS SPC (double slide): [((82+82+82+82+56)/410)]*[threshold & amount]
2) 3 year ELS SPC (single slide): [((82+82+82+56)/328)]*[threshold & amount]
3) 3 year ELS SPC (no slide): [((82+82+56)/246)]*[threshold & amount]
4) 2 year ELS SPC: [((82+56)/164)]*[threshold & amount]

* The full list of Roster Freeze Players is attached hereto as Attachment E.

Note: NHL Statistics attained during any season in which an SPC slides pursuant to Section 9.1(d) shall be included.

For further clarity, pro-ration shall apply to Performance Bonuses for NHL awards and statistical rank on the Club and in the League (e.g., $500,000 for Top 5 in Hart Trophy Voting, $25,000 for Top 3 forwards in Plus-Minus, $500,000 for top 10 among forwards in the NHL in points, etc.).

Any Player whose SPC slides pursuant to Section 9.1(d) in the 2020-21 season shall not be subject to the multiple season threshold pro-ration rules.

Notwithstanding anything herein, if in 2020-21, a Player has played in 100% of the Club’s Regular Season Games and has a Performance Bonus for playing in 82 Regular Season Games but the Club plays in less than 56 Regular Season Games, he will receive a Bonus Amount pro-rated by a factor of [# of Regular Season Games played by the Club/82].

In a nutshell, the stats category thresholds will be pro-rated to factor in the lesser amount of games (56/82), BUT the same will apply also to the bonus amount.

So, Svech's Schedule A bonus ($850k according to his ELC) pro-rates to $580,488, and

Necas's hard max of $537,500 pro-rates to $376,073 and 17 cents.

A bonus category normally worth $212,500 pro-rates to $145,121 and 95 cents.

Svech maxed out his (four needed categories) on stats categories alone yesterday.

Necas has two categories Assists and PpGP unlocked and only need one category more to max out his personal hard cap. He needs 1 G and 1 P in the four games remaining to meet the thresholds in those categories (but in practice, he has already secured the ToI category because he won't drop outside the forwards top-6).

The taxi squad boys were robbed quite a lot of their NHL salary by having them be on the AHL salary for their off-days to cushion for these bonuses and our Trade Deadline moves.

And for the purposes of clarity, I have never ever ever heard of any "multiple season thresholds"; so of any bonus terms where a player would for example score 60 goals during three seasons.

To my understanding, even if Exhibit 5 talks of 20 being the minimum allowed goal thteshold and $212,500 being the maximum allowed category bonus amount, in practice NHL teams always go by these minimum thresholds and maximum sums, and the only variable may be a hard cap set on the cumulative bonus (such as Necas has at $537,500 while the allowed maximum is $850).

The MOTU btw raised the maximum allowed cumulative bonus sum to $1M and the maximum allowed category sum to $250, which will be used in the ELCs signed from 2022 and forward.

CBA Exhibit 5 amended as follows:

• The Art Ross Trophy shall be added to Section 2(a)(i) along with the Hart, Norris, Vezina, Selke and Richard starting with the 2020/21 League Year.
• Starting with Entry Level Contracts signed after the 2022 NHL Draft, Exhibit 5 Club-Paid Individual “A” and “B” Performance Bonuses shall be increased as follows:
o “A” Bonuses: Aggregate maximum amount receivable per season increases from $850,000 to $1,000,000. Aggregate maximum amount receivable for any single category of bonuses increases from $212,500 to $250,000.
o “B” Bonuses (Club-paid): Aggregate maximum amount per season and per bonus increases from $2,000,000 to $2,500,000.

If the team decides to move on from Gardiner, and who knows on that, I still might favor a buyout. I know we aren't keen on paying someone not to play, but as far as buyouts go, his is manageable and doesn't cost us other assets. I do guess it would come down to what assets would be needed.

Should be, but we need to have a goalie signed or qualified to expose to Seattle. We're sure as f*** not exposing Ned after this year.
i have no clue how it works for goalies (i just know the rules for them are different than for skaters) but would all-name team beck warm count as someone that could be exposed?

With Gardiner, I think you just have to bite the bullet and buy him out. He’d cost too much to unload to Seattle or any other team willing to accept his full contract. So unless they found a dead weight for dead weight deal, a buyout seems to be the best option.

You guys are thinking like this is still a developing team and futures are the cash cow. This team is no longer a developing team, but a contending team in its prime window for a cup. A team in that window has to prioritize cap space over futures so they can get as much talent the roster as possible. Paying a future, especially a pick that is years away from making the team, is much more preferable than wasting cap space during your window.

Pay Seattle a first if necessary to move Gardiner.
