Obviously. Why does it need to be explained to you why its a bad thing?Apparently it benefits them... so to say it benefits no one is a bit of a stretch.
this is so frustrating. mannnnn....... f*** that capsSo am I, puckpedia is next up.
RIP alongside with capgeek and nhlnumbers
1) get Scrappy and Beautiful Soupso where else can I see contracts? anyone know of any good subs? Im on capfriendly like every day, multiple times
As stated, it benefits the people involved in the transaction. The owners because, $$$. The Caps because they get to make all the info the website go dark to other people/teams thus making them the sole beneficiaries (so strategic advantage)Nah, it's just an unnecessary purchase that benefits no one and inconveniences millions of fans.
Not vile ....just annoying. I bet they even pissed off some of their own fans too, with this move.
Honest to God we at Hfboards should make our own.
" NoCap! " would actually be genius branding for whatever site comes nextNo Cap
First step is archiving the publicly available data and making a list of features to recreateIm a web dev, offering to chip in
Step 4 requires far, far more than you're giving it credit for. It's not a technical problem like the rest, it's a The People You Know problem.1) get Scrappy and Beautiful Soup
2) scrape scrape
3) parse data into your own ReactJS construct
4) update as needed
We all know tragic fate of capgeek creator, but what happened to nhlnumbers?NHL numbers.
Damn.
The joys of being part of Archive Team.First step is archiving the publicly available data and making a list of features to recreate

So when the eventual Capfriendly replacement comes. And every team has access to the same tools again. The Caps will feel like dumbasses for trying to privatize publicly available information. I guess in that sense, the Caps WILL f*** themselves anyways. No need to ask them to. But I’ll do it anyways, go f*** yourself Caps.
He just got burned out and sold it to GF, IIRC.We all know tragic fate of capgeek creator, but what happened to nhlnumbers?
What does this mean for me, a dumbass ? They liked how everything was already set up ?They likely wanted the site infrastructure and UX. And likely it was a 'no licensing, full sale or nothing' situation.
Another thought is they 'bought' the guys running itNot sure what owning it and taking it offline does instead of just.. using it for free or paying a Sr dev to make you a custom UI that pulls from it's API.
Like I straight up don't understand the value of buying the site and then shutting it down to everyone when they could use it for free.
