Just hope it’s not a tier bandaid solution. This team can’t afford to move more assets for short term solutions.

Move whoever but make sure it’s for a long term player.

Not sure who that is but young a controllable.

Would say Hoglander and picks should get the conversation going.

They are 10th in points %, but still, it's not a lock.
Might have to make do with what they have.

Can't add anything too big as Hronek will return and you still need to be cap compliant when he returns. Seen multiple players go done this season and no real trade to speak of so far.

The trouble is everyone and their grandma wants a top 4 right shot D. Hronek being injured longterm really puts Vancouver over a barrel, especially considering their D wasn't great to start with.

Adding the wrinkle of wanting someone young (24-28?), already a bonafide top 4 D, and controllable - as in having some term left... I mean, that's gonna cost. Hoglander is a fine player but if you want someone that's not a stopgap, I think you're going to need to put more than a guy Tocchet hates (that has five points) and picks on the table.

The biggest problem is that anyone worth trading for will likely cost Willander. And the way he is developing, we can't afford to get rid of him. He looks like the future top 4 D we need and will have years of cost control that is invaluable in todays NHL. I could see Lekker available for someone that isn't a stop gap, but he is probably as close to untouchable as Willander.

True but most of the trade involving young controllable d men have revolved around a 1st rounder. I’m not suggesting Hoglander is the main component but i do think people here have a habit of looking at his current stats.

Teams will be looking at him as a player, year over year and he was great last year. Would a fresh start and some more pp time help? I think so.

1st + Hoglander and maybe one of Mynio or EP2 should fetch something decent.

Pettersson can play the right side. Spent much of his rookie year on the right of Jack Johnson and looked good doing it. At least I think it was him on the right side.

Wasn't Marino babysitting JJ and then MP was with Schultz? I honestly can't remember I wiped those years from my brain

Has to be a #5 at worst - a guy very clearly head and shoulders better than Desharnais and Juulsen. If the trade options are lateral moves from what they've got, there's zero value because that player will just end up waived.

With hutson able to take pp1 on montreal and them having a ton of d prospects, and way down the standings, maybe it's finally time for montreal to grab some value for matheson. If not to vancouver, then to somewhere.
