Looks like a reward/signing bonus for his Young Stars and training camp performance.

But I still think his upcoming OHL season is make or break for any NHL optimism. 0.5 PPG last year doesn't cut it.

Could be a wasted contract slot but the team seems enthusiastic to work with him.

Maybe it's a gamble on the player's development try to make their ELC expire sooner incase they go off at 21 or 22 and need a more expensive contract? Or just to reward a player for doing well and getting them some money if they're in junior?
