Confirmed with Link: Canucks sign D Akito Hirose to 1-Year ELC

Nice. A good, cheap, young competition can now ensue for the bottom pairing D. Hirose, Brisebois, Juulsen, Johanssen, Wolanin should all at least be able to play in that pairing, and also provide some great AHL depth.

... 1-year?

Also how did the admin initially get the wrong info???

Are they burning a year right away and framing it as 1-year next season?

Dope. Will be interesting to see how many games he gets.

DOPS will give him a 5 game suspension once he beats the living crap out of Marchand.

Seriously. From all second hand accounts...seems like a safer bet compared to Livingstone, who sounds like a boom or bust guy to last in the NHL.

Finally!

Again, seems reasonable. Skating and IQ looks very good in limited highlights.

Looks like they're doing the Teves/Rafferty thing where they sign a 24 y/o NCAA UFA to a 1-year deal, burn it immediately, and then re-sign the player to a bigger contract in the summer.

Well it’s a two year deal so more like having him under contract for next season as a trial period and if doesn’t work out just let him walk.

Mr. C had the thread title wrong. Updated.

See above - it was initially reported as 2-year, now changed to 1-year.

2-year with burning one this year would actually not be ideal if Hirose does well as it would basically walk him to Group VI UFA.
