That is brutal for the Canucks. Norris does not have that kind of value.

i'd do that in a second if i were the canucks but i'm in the camp that believes the canucks will keep boeser for a playoff push and then let him walk in free agency. turning him into norris instead would be fantastic

joshua and silovs are whatever

The way that is worded makes it sound like they would be willing to take on a highly salaried guy with lots of years left who may have soured in their current situation when it comes to production/availability versus contract length and hit.

So yeah, kind of like a Norris/Cozens area where they will attempt to lower the asset cost by saying "hey, we are willing to take on this big, gnarly long-term contract if you are willing to come to the table and discuss".

I'm not saying that other teams will just buy into this - but there are only so many mid-20's players making big bucks on huge deals that would even be remotely available that wouldn't be automatically completely cost-prohibitive to acquire.
well if the other team would give them up due to attitude/health issues nor didn't pan out, why on earth would they target someone like that...

and 28/29 and 29/30

He is signed for 5 more seasons after this one. His contract covers years 28-29 and 29-30 as well. 5 years. Not 3. Where are you getting 3 years?
Absolutely you are correct and I made a mistake. I was looking at the contract on PuckPedia and they present the length very strangely - the graphic went 4 years, then said UFA. But he is signed longer than that.

So are the Canucks trying to recreate the PLD or Chychrun trades to target a struggling asset and give up little for it?

or

Are they legit looking to find an impact forward in their prime signed long term? If that is true then goodbye Willander and a 1st and another future 2nd etc.

I fear it's the latter and it's a mistake IMO. The team has no depth because they keep trading futures in order to secure playoff spots. They are trying to do it with mirrors and it's unlikely to work for them. More likely they thrash around in mediocre land and occasionally have a terrible season and end up in the lottery with no 1st round pick, and no acquired deadline picks, which means nothing to show for it.

When Colorado was emerging to contender status they still had slip ups and they had the Makar and Byram/Newhook drafts to show for it. You don't fight the disaster years. You do a quick one year retool and load up again the next season.

For me that means dealing Suter, Boeser, Lankinen (or Demmer), and O'Connor. Harvest picks and reload and rebalance at the draft. This may not be a Makar year for us but it could be a Byram/Newhook equivalent. If we sign M Petterson then we have a key missing piece in place for next year. If Boeser wants to be here at reasonable dollars and term, great. But I'd be prepping to move on.

I feel like we are at Lou Lam levels of desperation and going to harvest a similar reward.

Now if we went the Caps route and tried to find undervalued situations and distressed assets, that's another story entirely.

Joshua is at best neutral value because of how he has played since coming back from his health issue and the money+term of his contract. VAN needs to move out long-term money if they take a contract like Norris. Joshua makes the most sense. The Senators do need some toughness in their lineup so even if he doesn't bounce back anytime soon there is a spot for him.

Boeser is worth a 1st and two small B or C pieces as a rental. He is being massively overrated. Norris is a better player right now. I think it is highly unlikely that Boeser stays in Ottawa and that they pay his ask. This would probably be a pure rental type situation.

The issue with Norris is not his current level of play, which has picked up significantly since the start of the season, it is the long-term risk with the contract and his previous shoulder injuries.

I wouldn't make that trade, unless I knew something about the shoulder of Norris that had me very worried. He is the better player right now, and the Senators are rolling.

Aside from the goalies, which is just me getting too cute, I could see a Norris to VAN trade being something like that. Norris, and one of Ottawa's depth forwards for Boeser and Joshua, with VAN retaining on the expiring contract to make it cap neutral.

Canucks trade pieces still available:

1st Rounder
2nd Rounder
Brock Boeser (If not signed by TDL) (UFA)
Lankinen (If Not signed by TDL) (UFA)
Lekkerimaki ( only for a major package )
Pius Suter (UFA)
3Petey ( UFA, If not signed by TDL)

Considering Cozen’s contract he might not be what Allvin/Rutherford see as a guy they want. That’s a high cost for a (likely) 3C.
I think Cozens’s floor is a 2nd line winger who scores 20-25 goals and 45-50 points and plays the sort of game that is needed for playoff success. By the middle years of his contract, with the cap going up as it is, I don’t think he will be overpaid. I’m not saying that he should be worth Willander to a Canuck fan, but the cap increases may make the Cozens contract pretty standard.

Boeser seems most likely to move. Coming UFA. Might see him moved and then those assets flipped, and adding if needed, to get the piece Van is targeting. Lots of chatter about Cozens. Just don’t see the Sabres wanting picks/prospects, unless they have another trade lined up to turn the assets into a player they want. Seems like a three-way trade could be what happens?

While he’s not at his peak, Demko would still be a decent trade asset if we decide to go with Lankinen.

If a team has a good backup in place already he may be worth the risk.

Also the California teams (especially LA and Anaheim) may see some added value in him.

Now that Miller is gone and Vancouver is clearly keeping EP, I don't see any trade with Buffalo. Buffalo is looking to package players and picks to get an impact player. Vancouver doesn't have any player available that works for that kind of deal. Not interested in trading Cozens for a package or a prospect. Buffalo needs to stop shuffling deck chairs around and make an impact move.

I could see Canucks 1st for Zegras TBH…

That being said, Zegras really is underperforming his contract. What’s up with him?
Injuries and Cronin trying to turn him into a Winger. He's been great since being moved back to C and arguably a bit snake bitten. Probably more than any other player on the team he makes the players around him better.

Buffalo has a lot of really good players. Really makes no sense they’re not a lot higher in the standings. But clearly something isn’t working. Chemistry off? Not sure is Cozens is the guy to move that makes the needed culture change? Who should the Sabres move that would change the losing culture?

Zegras has elite skills and is prickly. Lots of clubs would like to add him. The price would be high. Not too sure Van would pay that price?

Moving Cozens is fine, in a package for a high impact player (specifically a centre). Look at our C spine. Kulich is currently playing 1 C, a rookie. Yes, We need more righties on our D and yes we could use more defensively sound D men, but we can't afford to be trading away any of our players who play C right now (regardless of talent level). We just don't have the horses to throw away another C for lottery tickets.

We can do that if there is a right deal for a top 4 RD for example, for us the season is over and McLeod has done better than Cozens as our top 6 C, all the metrics say so. Of course we will have to find a top 6 C for next season, but I will not hold on to Cozens just because he is playing terribly as our top 6 C right now.

In the context is this thread though, who do you trade him for off Vancouver that is available? I am not interested in continuing to get younger over and over.

No, I meant any other team, not necessarily for a center. It's hard to find a deal with the Canucks that isn't for EP40.

I like the Sabres…the idea that Rosen for Willander is a fair trade for Vancouver is absolutely absurd.

Willander is a foundational piece for Vancouver. He’s that good. They aren’t trading him for Cozens or Peterka..they sure as hell would laugh at the idea of trading him for Isak Rosen. What an absurd thought.

Wouldn't you be paying allot if you tried to get a really good young player
from a non playoff team at the trade deadline? It sounds like what they would
do is trade whatever they get for Boeser, and/or Pius Suter
likely a draft pick, for someone else. Maybe, they trade the defenceman Elias
Pettersson?, or some other AHL guys. I think they need another center with some size.

Maybe it is far fetched but Rosen is 2nd in goal scoring in the AHL right now - not among rookies among everyone. He is available but not for cheap

I think Zegras and Tippitt make sense, what about a cheaper option in Tommy Novak? C/LW, over 6 feet, around 0.6 career pts/game, I'm just not sure what's going on in Nashville and their direction.

Tough to trade for a true "impact" player middle of the season thats still relatively young without paying up a good amount I'd think.

I'll lose my f***ing mind if they trade Willander. That guy could step in right now and play in the top 4 with a steady partner like Mettersson.

That production on an ELC is priceless. I'd much sooner deal Lekkermaki if we had to sacrifice a good asset.
