we're doomed anyway in that scenario imo, I know people are gonna point to the run this past year, I don't see that being repeatable with Silovs again.

Fair, I was thinking more as a piece in a trade to acquire a good top 6 winger, instead of a straight 1 for 1.

If anything I think he’d be a potential sweetener in a deal for a team looking down the road rather than this year. Like Levi was when Florida acquired Reinhart from Buffalo.

Wonder if they’d have appetite for that given it seems like he’s going there and they don’t need to penny pinch their cap. Why pay for a privilege (8th year) that they don’t need to do

With Guentzel, it makes sense for us. 8.3 instead of 9.5 would be big

This keeps being brought up, but a player has to be on a team by the trade deadline in order to be given 8 years.

Canucks are still top-10 in functional capspace (capspace minus projected UFA contract). I have them at 14.49m (LTIR) with a 19/23 roster (Silovs at 1m). If they go with a full 23-man roster and have those last two spots occupied by league minimum guys (1.55m total) that's just under 13m for a top-6 forward and another defenceman. So you could realistically do Guentzel at 9.5 and another defenceman around 3.5m.

What defenseman will come in at 3.5?

15.5M for 3 skaters & back up goalie.

If the Canucks sign a top 6 winger for 7M or under they can easily afford Big Z for 5M

Interesting (and thank you). I don't think Tanev or Zad come in that cheap, but Dillon would.

Or if they go cheaper on the forward acquisition they could bring Tanev or Zad in. But I think it makes more sense to go Dillon and a Guentzel/Reinhart level forward.

This team would’ve likely won the Cup this year if they were healthy.

Now imagine a healthy team with the addition of an elite top 6 winger, wow.

Carrier will likely get above that. They’ve been connected to some depth guys in Edmunson and Hakanpaa who will probably cost about half that. Not a lot in between.

My expectation at this point is for Zadorov to hit free agency, find the offers less than he wants, circle back to the Canucks, only for them to have signed Dillon and don't have any room for him.

You can't really look at things like this in a vacuum though. Guentzel has by and large played with Crosby, a generational talent and instant hall of famer. And when he wasn't playing with Crosby I assume he played with Malkin. I wonder how Reinhart's production would look over the past ten years playing with Crosby or Malkin?

Reinhart was playing with scrubs in Buffalo, and while he certainly played with better players in Florida, its not like he has been playing with Crosby.
Guentzel answered any questions about being a product of Crosby in Carolina this year. Reinhart flopped last year in Florida before resurging this year and has 7 years of not producing at a first line level.

It makes zero sense to ignore these things.
