Unfortunately that is unlikely to ever happen again, at least not in bigger cities like VAN or TOR.

Moving to smaller cities seems to be the most "realistic" option.

I think even if its not Forbort specifically, the team needs a vet and a PK specialist like him at about the same cap hit going into next season. We usually have a D or 2 injured at various time during the season, you don't want to run into a situation where we have 3 rookies dressed in those situations.

Sacrifices will for sure have to be made elsewhere, unfortunately our cap situation doesn't look too great for next season unless we dump a couple inefficient contracts (ie: Soucy and Hog). I think we have enough room to make 1 major "add" up front, be it extending Boeser, signing a UFA, or trading for a player. We have to make that "add" count, that is one we definitely cannot miss on.

I wonder about Duchene as a UFA. Sure he is older (currently 34), but he still skates at an elite level and is near PPG during his time in Dallas, playing as a 2C. He would make an excellent middle 6 player and take some of the offensive pressure off Chytil and Petey. He won't cost asset but I do worry that he is looking for a long term contract. With his speed and hands, I think he still have a couple good seasons left.

Granlund is another interesting player. 33 years old so he is not young either, but also a very good offensive center. Not as fast as Duchene but not painfully slow either. Would fit well as a middle 6C.

If that is the forward group next season, if you get rid of Soucy and replace him with an ELC. About 5M for a 3lc at a 22 man roster with Boeser at 8M a year.

Center position looks awful without someone like Miller to handle hard minutes in the playoffs.

Sure. Just need to be making $1M/yr.

Even then, with the cost of living, not going to happen.

I bought a house and a car post COVID. Despite earning quite a bit more than some of my friends, if they bought pre COVID they have way more disposable income than I do right now.

I hate that being successful in this country essentially depended on you getting established before a deadline.

Anything purchase pre COVID or beginning of COVID would make a world of a difference:

1. House
2. Stocks
3. Groceries

Everything was cheaper.

I make a very healthy salary but the cost of living is absurd. Especially when you have kids.

The solution to the lack of cap is to LTIR Demko or trade Demko and sign a good, but not elite goal as a back up.

Somebody like Talbot. Frees up 3Mish and now you have 17 M for wingers. Assume Bennett is one for 7 and you have 10 M for somebody.

I have issues with wasting Boeser as an assets if they don't plan to re-sign him. This team is in absolutely no place to let an asset walk for free of that value. That would be Jim Benning level SMRT.

I'd argue that signing a player like Frederic to that contract never works out that well but NHL GM's keep handing them out again and again. The Foligno's, Blake Coleman, Barclay Goodrow, Yakov Trenin, Lawson Crouse, Jason Dickinson players that are getting around 4M a year because they put up 30 points, hit and play a little defence. Painful to the salary cap team that isn't in a perfect moment.

I agree on Boeser. I just meant for being short of time I had skipped the step with trading Boeser.

I am also hesitant with Frederic, but not dead set against him and think our braintrust will pursue him at a moderate level.

From your examples, Coleman is a fantastically useful player and the Folignos are as well. Crouse is hit or miss.

Would rather promote Sasson as a full time 4C and use Blueger with Joshua and Garland again than sign Frederic. Lek won’t last on a bottom 6 checking line either, but perhaps he’d work with Chytil and DOC as a complementary scorer.

Ehlers is my #1 target this offseason and probably not impossible given he already plays in Canada and Euros like Vancouver as a city/political climate.

I wouldn't get hung up on numbers of lines. I wasn't implying Lekk would be on a shutdown line.

I like Sasson but I wouldn't gift him a spot yet either.

I don't mind that at all. Still not sold on Garland and Boeser as the two top RW's though but maybe that works. Don't like the compliment and hope for someone more dynamic there. One tiny guy and one slow guy. But I get it that is a tough ask. I would almost prefer bumping up Lekk, dumping Hoglander and spending on a LW to bump Joshua down. I don't like him in the top 6 at this point.

I almost like the idea of rotating Lekkerimaki and Sherwood in there until we see how it plays out. There is a lot of uncertainty right now obviously. We'll have to see how it goes, We should see something soon.
