Some pretty lame suggestions here. I hope we don’t spend much or give term to any of these guys, especially Barbashev and Kerfoot, if the idea is for them to play C. Maybe if we can get Sundqvist or Kampf on a cheaper deal. I’d like to see if Aman can continue to develop. Him and Joshua are a nice duo I’m the bottom 6.

What a lousy article. Multiple guys listed are wingers (Barbashev, Kerfoot) and then suggestions like Hinostroza who has been in the AHL half the season?

Meanwhile guys like Compher and Gaudreau who are the most obvious best candidates don't make the list.

I would actually be ok with both Boeser and Garland moved. Boeser for preference if only one goes. I am not a big fan of Garland's game, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

(That Macbeth quote begins with the words "Told by an idiot," which also gives an insight into how Garland got to Vancouver).

"It's a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury. Signifying nothing."

One guy I’d be interested in as a stop-gap 3rd line centre would be Pius Suter. He’s had a down season and should come cheaper than his current cap-hit. He’s very young for a UFA; doesn’t even turn 27 until end of May. He’s not the perfect fit but I think he’d do well between Podkolzin and Kravtsov.

Wouldn't mind Ryan Donato for a similar profile, although he'd probably be looking for a raise from his current contract, and he's doing well in Seattle.

I wonder if CBJ will go after Miller at the draft. They have extra 1st rounders and a young C that Allvin might be interested in and maybe another C as a cap dump.

CanucksArmy is typically low quality content.

They’re not big despite most of the Vancouver media ranges from mediocre to pretty bad.

Insurance is for teams, not players. Players' contracts are guaranteed and require no insurance. If he's truly injured, he gets 100 percent of his salary sitting on LTIR and has no incentive to retire.
And this is why Poolman will stay on LTIR

Unless he's willing to throw 2 million dolllars (gross) away and then play for league minimum and maybe even a 2 way contract which would put him further behind and then be one hit away from not playing again which would be nonsensical from a business and risk standpoint. It will be easy with a head injury to get doctors to sign off on headaches vertigo however they frame it to collect his money

For Pearson it's negligible (buyout vs LTIR) and he would probably want to get one more contract before he's forced to retire if possible. If so he forces the Canucks hands and they will buy him out. We save 1.8 million next season in doing so which can be used towards a 3C and then he gets his 3.3 in buyout earnings and whatever contract he can muster so it makes some sense for Tanner to force his way back.

With Kuzmenko Michayev Beauvillier Boeser Garland Podkolzin Joshua PDG Hoglander Kravtsov Studnicka there is no room for Pearson and his lack of speed after so much time off and disaster start to this season to try and bring that back into the mix

What do you think Compher is as a player?

Avs board's consensus opinion is far different than yours. You seem to have him rated quite highly

No more ‘Da Beauty League’ for Boeser I guess

I love this. Been saying since the start of the Benning era that there are no standards here, no expectations, that this team is a country club. This is *exactly* the attitude the organization needs to have.

That said, don’t circle back on Boeser. Move on.

NHL players should never play hockey in beer leagues for any length of time. Does nothing but create bad habits and a false sense of what they can pull off and how much time they have
i even feel the same way when i play below my skill level in beer league. you only get better playing with people at or above your skill level. iirc crosby and other nhlers just rent out ice and play against each other in the off-season.

When a player's contract is insured, as Pearson's probably is to at least 50 percent of its value or so, a) it makes no sense to buy out his contract if he genuinely belongs on the LTIR as insurance will pay some or most of it, and b) it's very difficult for a player who doesn't belong on the LTIR to remain there as it exposes the team to liability for insurance fraud. If Pearson is healthy enough to play, he's going to play, unfortunately for the team.

Just thinking given the circumstances with the surgeries and the amount of follow up procedures that it's possible that Pearson may have some say in how his final contract year plays out.

But you're correct he can't just circumvent the rules without the possibility of accusations towards the validity of his claims.

One's rehabilitation is contingent on the patient feeling ready to resume within a reasonable time frame and that probably has a fair amount of flexibility given what we have heard.

I suspect he will make an effort to come back and the team buys him out

I think he might be better suited to the wing due to his lack of size and poor (not horrible) face off stats. He is interesting and I posted about him before. Depends how much he costs. If it’s 3 million then I’d probably prefer a lower cost option that at least could platoon with Aman and provide size, speed, and forechecking; traits that I also think would complete well Kravstov and Podk

I think Compher might cost too much. I think he’ll get 50-60 pts and look to get paid on a longer term deal above $4 million maybe even 5 and at that cost it’s not worth it. Gaudreau is interesting. I don’t know much about him and haven’t watch him much since he’s on the Wild. What do you think he’ll get in UFA? The Wild desperately need centres but they’re also cap strapped next year

One thing to note is that if a team has a player that is insured who has a dubious long term injury (think Hossa), that team doesn’t need to make an insurance claim and probably wouldn’t given the circumstances. They can just payout the remainder. So the whole insurance fraud doesn’t actually stop a team if they are willing to spend the money.

I’m a big fan of this too. If you have two equally skilled teams, the team that competes harder and has better fitness is going to win more games. These are professional athletes and I’m glad they will be held to that standard. I mean even at 14 or 15 when I was playing soccer that if the first game was in October or late September, and it was normal to start practices in early September, our coach wanted us practicing in August if we were serious about winning.

I’ve heard winning culture a lot over the years, and this is probably the first thing I’ve heard in a long time that will actually help to build a winning culture.

Speaking of off season training I heard an interesting conversation with Ryan Johnston on the radio yesterday about Abbotsford.
He emphasized that most of the basic skills players need can only be worked on in the off season as there’s not time during the season. And one he focused on was skating.
They have a skating coach for Abbotsford, Mackenzie Braid, and Johnston said a lot of the improvement comes from building up core and lower body strength (and of course working on technique). Players he specifically mentioned as needing to work on skating were Raty and Karlsson.
It was an interesting listen.
