Says when the Canucks met with Milstein in Florida they discussed Gavrikov and Barbashev (it's not Barabanov since he's under contract for next season). The interesting thing is that this was known since the time of that meeting. Milstein even said so himself, although with plausible deniability.

Starts around the 2m mark "We spent 6 or so hours together, talking about different things. One of them was Andrei Kuzmenko. We also discussed some other free agents and upcoming draft and many other things."

I wonder if Dallas would be interested in one of Garland/Boeser with Faksa coming back the other way. He'd slot in nicely as a defensive 3C and allow them a real cap-efficient upgrade up front, where they're losing Dadonov and Domi.

I was wondering that about Myers but they have Miller/Haakanpaa/Lundkvist down the right side. Boeser/Garland makes more sense and Faksa has been bumped down with the emergence of Wyatt Johnston.

PLEASE no to Faksa.

3.25M for another 2 years for a defensive center that can't score?

Absolutely not. He is a luxury we can't afford at all. Would be a terrible acquisition... (unless they paid us worthwhile assets to take him).

Didn't we learn from the Jason Dickinson fiasco?

Could be free agents in KHL right?

Doesn't mean anything.

So RD is lying?

So RD is lying?

RD is backtracking.

I think they probably "discussed" free agents. RD presented that information like it was a fact, when he shouldn't have.

Every team tampers all the time - this is a complete non-story. This isn't where a GM actively namedrops players like what JB did.

What about the agent for Bear leaking that they haven’t talked since AS week and are a ways apart? Plus the leak that it’ll either be 1 or 3 years?

You’d think a sealed vault management team would instruct agents to stop leaking things out, even vaguely.

lol at everyone thinking we'll dump Myers. or even that we should. We would immediately have a need for another defenseman. We just went through this with Tanev. Myers is overpaid but not completely useless.

Our wingers are the surplus
So you are comparing the Tanev situation with Myers. Tanev was our only legit right shot dman. Myers is at best our third best right shot dman with Hronek and Bear being better. Also Myers is useless you can find players making less than half his cap to do exactly what he does.

Agents don't work for the Canucks LMAO.

Canucks can't stop other agents from talking bro... what do you think this is? Some Italian mafia shit?

Agents talk in public all the time... it's not really a big deal.

They can only control what they can control. There were zero leaks about most of the trades this year, except maybe Ethan Bear?

We wouldn't be "affording" him at all - we'd open up cap by moving out of our redundant wingers (none which we're moving off of the full freight of).

so canucks want bear on a cheap two year deal.

is that not tampering? i thought you had to wait for the window to talk to ufas.
Did you really think the Isles acquired Bo without getting a sense of how much it will cost with his agent beforehand?

There are ways to find stuff out without asking directly.

From what Dhaliwal is reporting, it's 100% tampering. Milstein can deny it and say that the Canucks and him only discussed his upcoming European free agent clients.
yeah, i guess that is the loophole.

but if i was bettman i would ask milstein and rutherford for an explanation.

so you are saying it is possible to discreetly break rules without getting caught?

amazing. my entire world is upside down. i am shook.

Honestly I think something like Myers and Lekkerimaki for a 3rd from Arizona might be the best bet. There might be teams that still hold him in high regard.
Yeah this is really realistic. It does even matter how people on here value Lekkerimaki. He was managements first pick they aren't just going to trade him a year latter (they have attachment to him). Also Aquilini isn't paying Myers bonus then flipping him with one of the teams best prospect to get a third back.

Putting a tinfoil hat on, I found it very suspicious that Gavrikov said he wouldn't sign an extension with any team, the Canucks have a need for a 2nd pairing left-side defensive defenceman, and the Milstein connection.

The Bo Horvat contract was leaked on Reddit like 2 hours before Bo was traded. The only difference between the actual contract and the leaked one was 1 year more in term.

I listened to both those clips live and now again. Nothing in Milstein's comments can point to discussing players under contract with other clubs. Dhaliwal was just doing what he does, taking Milstein's words and speculating (but stating it authoritatively) that they were talking about Gavrikov and Barbashev.

Do I think Milstein and the Canucks talked about these two players? Absolutely.
Do I think Milstein said that to Dhaliwal directly? Absolutely not.

Agents are too smart to cross the line, even with reporters. It's only guys like the previous GM that get caught.

faksa is also terrible and overpaid. canucks should stay away

The point is to trade our overpaid players for other overpaid players who may be a better roster fit.

Rutherford did a bunch of this in Pittsburgh (the Hornqvist/Neal trade being the best example).

Another example: Mike Matheson, who I've been wondering if Rutherford would be willing to re-unite with.
