Says when the Canucks met with Milstein in Florida they discussed Gavrikov and Barbashev (it's not Barabanov since he's under contract for next season). The interesting thing is that this was known since the time of that meeting. Milstein even said so himself, although with plausible deniability.

Starts around the 2m mark "We spent 6 or so hours together, talking about different things. One of them was Andrei Kuzmenko. We also discussed some other free agents and upcoming draft and many other things."

For the love of god do the 1 year deal on Bear. He’s not a guy I want to see them locking in longterm unless it’s a great AAV(it wouldn’t be).
Was just going to post this. He's turning 26 and really showed thus far to be a bottom pairing defenseman. I think GMs and fans get enamored with the guy because he's showed brief stints of being a 2nd pairing guy (if paired with the right partner)....However the reality is the guy is a low event, subpar defender and really goes through stretches where he avoids all physicality.

No reason to commit term and dollars for a slot that could be filled with guys making under 1 mil.

milstein is slimy as hell. i'm still convinced that the mikheyev contract was part of the price of getting kuzmenko. wouldn't be surprised if barbashev and gavrikov are a similar package deal where if you want one you have to pay the other

So I guess I'm the last guy who still thinks moving on from Tanev was the correct decision. Still a good player when he's on the ice, but if he's not available when it matters most, then who cares? I mean do people still think we should have kept Markstrom over Demko too?

Myers is low hanging fruit for a roster and cap that needs to remove some players. I wouldn't be giving up valuable assets to move him, but I also don't expect we will have to. Too bad, because when he's "on" he can be a difference maker. But too inconsistent, and too expensive.

That's what we're counting on.

If Boeser was an UFA, he'd probably be at the top of the list alongside Domi.

His 2 year contract (especially retained) would be very attractive and low risk.

UFA tax

Your paying max cost for players that will likely decline in productivity by 50% by 33

looking at some models online this is something i threw together quickly

26-28 is net zero
29/30 is negative 5-15%
31/32 is negative 15-30%
32/33 is negative 30-50%

Obviously this is not for all players but the best examples are anyone that is not a front line player by then and what it by odds costs you in cap loss. If you pay prices inline on shorter terms for support roles typically it can go well. 100k per pt is pretty typical at the top half of the roster. Obviously D would need some different scales and models

using above a 8 x 10 at 27 would provide 100-100-95-85-80-70-60-50 = 16 million in FA tax but you also had an impact player for 6 of 8yrs. 2 million per year of the contract for an impact player 6 yrs is not a bad price to pay(basically the Larkin contract)

a 65 pt player like Horvat @8.5 x 8 = 70-65-58-55-50-45-40-40= 42.3 and 16 million in FA tax but you had an impact player for 3-4 yrs and lose 3-4 million every year after. 2 million per year if adjusted for 4 yrs of 8 impact player is not that good but if it's a final piece you can see some logic

Eriksson @31 6 x 6 came off a 63pt outlier. Was basically a 50pt player using a larger 3yr sample
= 43-40-35-25-25-20=188pts for 36 million which is almost 18 million in free agent tax and never was he gonna be an impact player. 6yrs of losing 3 million per for no impact is utterly moronic. By the way he scored 90pts and was really a 27 million dollar loss in cap space and then added to another deal because someone decided he couldn't wait another year and added OEL.

He's played 56/82 (100%) of the regular season games in the last 2 years. And even 50-60/82 games of Tanev is much better than 82 games of Myers.

so canucks want bear on a cheap two year deal.

is that not tampering? i thought you had to wait for the window to talk to ufas.

I was at the game yesterday but all good.

UFA isn’t always reflective of performance on ice.

Myers got 6 years x $6M as a #4/5 defenseman.

Boeser will absolutely be attractive in the offseason. All it takes is a GM to think he needs a change of scenery.

It would be different if Allvin or Rutherford came out and said "That Gavrikov, great player, we're gonna take a run at him in the off season." or "We spoke to Barbashev's agent and will sign him when he's ufa."

Right now there's still plausible deniability, a third party is saying it happened. NHL can go to the Canucks and ask did you tamper, and they say US? Tamper? never.

You'd have to be a complete idiot, like the dumbest of all time, to go and do a radio interview and say Subban and Stamkos by name as players you're interested in.

Hextall pissing off the fan base? Shocker.

He will be gone once the Pens get bounced.
With Sid and Geno aging and the club not being a strong Cup contenders any more, I think Hextall was right not to give up assets to take on Miller's long-term contract as an a strongly against the odds gamble on the short term future.

That's not an opinion about other moves Hextall did or didn't make or whether he should be gone for them, just that if the disenchantment with him is over his failure to acquire Miller I think it's misplaced..

I wonder if Dallas would be interested in one of Garland/Boeser with Faksa coming back the other way. He'd slot in nicely as a defensive 3C and allow them a real cap-efficient upgrade up front, where they're losing Dadonov and Domi.
I was wondering that about Myers but they have Miller/Haakanpaa/Lundkvist down the right side. Boeser/Garland makes more sense and Faksa has been bumped down with the emergence of Wyatt Johnston.

Zero interest in Gavrikov the amount of draft capital and cap dollars we've invested in this blue for it to be as shitty as it is doesn't leave room for another overpay. Canucks are gonna have to find a good value D.
