Wut?
Wow, I had no idea Maroon was still alive.I wonder if, given the rumors that the Canucks have been interested in Greenway all year, the Canucks might have interest in Pat Maroon? Cheap contract, boatload of playoff experience, big body that's tough to handle. I imagine he'll be going to a playoff team, but wonder if the Canucks may have interest as a rental to finish out the year.
Absolutely hate the guy, but this is the type of gritty heavy veteran depth we need. I would love it if Myers was moved for some kind of return, but I have lost hope in that. It seems like he is loved in the room and is still valued on the ice. Unless they have a replacement RD in place on a deal I can't see them moving him, and even if they did it would be a ballsy move that could upset the team's morale.Dont think we are done. Here's my prediction
- We are moving Myers for a pick
- We are trading for another Dman to improve the Myers spot
-Getting another Deppth Dman
-Adding another top 6 winger. Someone under the radar like a Mantha, Silverberg, Zucker, Pacriotty
They've moved something like 13 million in inefficient cap in this season alone.Who says hockey trades can't be done. Net trade results over the last year. I'd say that's a pretty good exchange overall, while managing the cap.

This is what I threw together quickly. Podkolzin may not make the roster, so that's potential money to play with. We can waive PDG or sent Aman down as well.
Of course, the big factor here is whether Lindholm willing to stay in the 7M-ish range. That's a pretty steep drop from his supposed 9M ask from Calgary but there's no chance we sign him at that price. I'm also assuming Pettersson and Hronek don't squeeze every possible cent out of us. I didn't trade Mikheyov, so that could open up options if we find a taker.
And yes, I signed Myers. While I'd prefer to put that money elsewhere. I'm pretty certain they want him back. So long as it's 3M or less, I think we can stomach it. Don't see any scenario we sign Zadorov. At least not if he's chasing 5M+.
All in all, we can afford to pay everyone a little more than what I listed them at but we, ideally, don't have to. If the cap hits are more reasonable, we really only need to let Cole and DeSmith walk. Maybe Lafferty too.
This all assumes a 87.7M cap.
I still think top priority has to be defense in the form of an upgrade ie somehow offloading Myers and finding a better fit. I don’t know if there is a solution that allows for defensive upgrade.
Yes Kuzmenko's contract was their own doing. They took a gamble that he could develop his defensive game. Even if he became adequate at that aspect of the game, his offensive chops were there and deserving of the contract. And arguably he was an asset that added value to the trade. Maybe the trade doesn't get done if it's Hunter B, a late 1st, Jurmo and a 4th.They've moved something like 13 million in inefficient cap in this season alone.
Granted, Kuzmenko's contract was correcting their own error. And of cours, the OEL buyout. Still a Piper to pay on that, but it had to be done and took some spine.
but like a far cry from the roster paralysis we experienced and feared perpetuating.
For the playoffs, barring further moves:I'm pretty sure the team is quite happy with Myers this season, I don't think he's going. If we can bump him down to the 3rd pairing full time, that would be ideal.

The willingness to move off of players and contracts that aren't working is refreshing.
According to Rutherford..they are not going to make any substantial moves now until they see how it all plays out with Lindholm on the team.Dont think we are done. Here's my prediction

In spite of the fact that it is Calgary, I still want him to do well. I like Kuzmenko's energy. He just didn't fit here. I don't actually think his goal scoring will lead to much better results for Cowtown though. He is an exciting player, but it strikes me that he is not a winning player in today's NHL, at least not as a primary piece.According to The Athletic, Calgary was excited to take on Kuzmenko since he fulfilled their objecting of adding an NHLer to the roster, think he can inject a lot of skill and be a gamebreaker for them. His value was low or neutral but Calgary doesn't view him as negative value.
Apparently Trouba has been bad , that contract could bite us in the ass. Other defenders would be greatOh yeah, I'd 100% do that. Canucks are rolling with a bunch of guys who are #4s on their best days behind Hughes/Hronek.
It doesn’t look too bad for the playoffs, but feel like we still need a more reliable RHD veteran that can step up in a pinch. Erik Johnson retained would be a prudent move. For the playoffs, barring further moves:
Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Cole
Zad - Myers
Juulsen
Friedman
I know Cole is out of position here and Tocchet doesn't like that, but having Big Z and the Giraffe (sounds like a wacky morning radio show duo) on the bottom pairing feels right. It's not cap efficient to keep Myers, but we are almost at the point of being able to or having to suck that up for the rest of the season. He brings more than he would likely bring back in a trade, unless there was another solid top 4 RD option available who doesn't break the bank to acquire.
Maybe we bring in another depth rd in the event of injury or unsustainable suckage.
Myers will play out his contract in Vancouver.
