Canucks somehow staying in contention. Very good effort through the first two periods, but once again fell into a shell and stopped doing what had been successful in the earlier periods.
Good
Joshua - good comment by Ferraro about this player finding his legs. Like others played well at the offensive blue line and in the neutral zone breaking up plays. Hopefully will continue and make his new contract legit.
Garland - obviously the first star. Think he missed Miller for a few game, but back to be a force in this one.
Lankanin - had no chance on the goals and was solid throughout.
Hughes - maybe not up to his usual standard but back to providing the team the offense that diasppeared with him out
Boeser - if he backchecked and skated every game like he did in this one, he'd be much more of an asset. Maybe the fear of not getting a big contract here or elsewhere is being realized. Thought DeBrusk was also better overall and played a better two way game.
Chytil - producing points. Open ice in the OT let him show off some of his skating ability. There seems to something here and hopefully he now has the chance to exhibit it.
Blueger/Suter - key to the win was their work on the PK. Likely the most consistently best aspect of the team has been the PK. I would say these players are elite in this area .
Poor
Myers - hope he is ok (credit him for the courage to do what he does as a shot blocker) and we are worse without him, but I saw him as a negative as the game progressed. Got the team back on their heels and set the tone for the team in the third with his non-stop icing. Fore-check was crucial in the first two periods, but then, led by Myers, went into a shell and started giving up too many shots. Also, Myers needs to use his stick better to deflect shots away from the goal and not into the net.
Others
EP1 - some good, some bad - overall remains mediocre at best.
EP2 - fact he is not a liability is encouraging. Indeed, he was on most shifts, good. At this point, you'd have to say this player is in the NHL and will be for years.
Soucy - was better in this game. Form in the first two periods was as good as it has been in months.
Hoglander -very nice and very important goal. But after that disappeared.
Give the team credit for a good game against a good team but still have to have doubts, given the way they faded in the third, that they can contend when they get pushed by better teams.

I never once liked with the idea of trading him unless its a trade to good to turn down. I've always valued defensive depth especially for a teams in a playoff push. If its a team out of the picture...ok.... I get it..... but we are very much in the heat of the playoff race, he was good for us last season why not keep him.

Also the guy who attacked Nils Hoglander and then had his wheels blown off by Zack MacEwen.
(He’s been excellent for a couple of months now. Great to see after he had some terrible things happen in his life early this season)
You could see the seeds of another third period meltdown ...when in the first seven minutes the Canucks were constantly icing the puck. They just seem to lie back, and let teams come at them. Not a recipe for success.
But three goals for the Canucks qualifies as an explosion, and their PK won them the game. Not sure if they were that good, or the Kings PP was that bad....and Lordy was it bad.
Kings will 'lock it down' and win a lot of regular season games. But just can't see it translating to the playoffs very well at all.
Strong games on the blueline from the two Pettersson's--Marcus and Elias. Young D-Petey continues to be revelation with his play. He just so damned mobile out there and his gap control in the middle of the ice--is off the charts. Canuck have special one in this kid.
As for the 'other Pettersson--EP40--another quiet night. He didn't even see the ice in OT.

I like watching Marcus Pettersson play hockey. He's just a professional out there. Uses every bit of his length and strength to push the puck in the right direction. If he can maintain this level of player for a few more years and a couple of Pettersson/Willander/Mancini/Kudryavtsev/Mynio become legit NHLers, that's an excellent group.

I hate losing to Kopi, I love him as a player, but I hate losing to him. I agree...incredibly smart player. If it wasn't for Bergeron, he would've won more Selkes.
That's why I love him.

2nd most ice time among forwards. Coaching giving him all the opportunity they possibly can. Extremely sad to see him struggle like this.
Tonight’s Game
- A lot to like about the game
- Obviously need to talk about giving up two goals in the 3rd
- Penalty kill was huge; took a lot of guts
- Is a driving force; possesses the puck a lot; not afraid to make plays
- Calming influence in the dressing room
- Got hit in the neck; thinks it hit a nerve; was dizzy
- Might be okay for tomorrow
- Possible he saved a goal
- There was goal interference but the King wasn’t in the crease
- Tocchet say it’s his mistake
- If the foot was in the crease, it would have been no goal
- Were better through the middle of the ice on rush attacks but still have a ways to go
- Thought O’Connor brought some speed
- Hoglander had some juice early in the game
- More balanced lines
- 11 minutes before the game, Hughes called Tocchet into the medical room and convinced Tocchet to let him play
- Original plan was to load manage him but Hughes said he felt pretty good on the ice and still feels good after the game
- Hughes wanted to play and doctors felt it was safe enough
- At the 8 minutes mark had to tell Bains he wasn’t playing
- Is the longest Tocchet has ever gone to finalize the line-up
- Have to get the line-up in 7 minutes before puck-drop and Canucks had about 90 seconds left
- Need to keep pushing when the pressure mounts
- Playing too safe and need to get over that hump
- If you’re the 4th man in the rush, you can’t be scared to attack
- Still need to support each other
- Felt the Canucks were chasing the puck
- Kings were flying through the middle and the Canucks “didn’t pick them up”; were standing still in the neutral zone; can’t stand that
- Will take the positives for this game, though

When we signed him a lot of people wrote him off, mostly because people wanted Zadorov back. He had a rough start but since January I think he's had three games where he's been a minus and our pk since he's been back full time has been lights out.A playoff type player. Let's f***in goooooooooo
Speaking of our D looking at it now compared to when Hronek, Forbort and Quinn for a few games gives me PTSD lol.
Two months ago I was marking my Calendar for the arrival of Willander but with Myers, Hronek, and Forbort, playing so well, there's no way he's gonna see much time. Watching Myers knowing exactly when to pinch and creating scoring chances, or D-Petey playing like he is at 20 when people were pissed he wasn't moved over Brew last year, or Marcus and Forbort shutting it down with ease especially that last kill is just awesome. On top of that we have Hronek and the best Dman in the league along with very strong goaltending, call up Lekkerimakki and add a legit top six forward and we can compete with anyone come playoffs.

Marcus Pettersson reminds of a left-hand version of Chris Tanev in his prime. The play just seems to slow down when it's on his stick, and he makes the right play over and over again.
You can understand why Rutherford and Allvin, who got him out of Anaheim as young d-men when they were in Pittsburgh--had prioritized him for the past three years in Vancouver. And of course quickly re-signed him to a long-term extension.
