I wouldn't trade for it, but this place was a lot funnier in the dark days. Losing brings it out, i guess.

Dark humor was the only way we could cope during those days.

Nowadays, we have these silly things called "expectations" and it sucks when the team doesn't meet them, despite showing themselves fully capable of doing so not too long ago.

But I always try to keep this silly comic in mind:

The thing I've noticed is Florida has better break outs and does a better job in puck support.

When you watch us try to forecheck or get in Florida usually has a triangle type setup where the man with the puck always has two ploptions to pass to and the passes are always on the tape.

Conversely it looks like our puck support is further away thus harder to connect passes and easier to intercept or forces those flip and rim plays for 50 50 pucks.

At the end of the day Rod is trying to coach against Moe in a system Moe has refined for 30? Years and Rod is just using an older version he learned from Moe.

Spermy the whale anointing the team before the game

BTW why would a team mascot be the thing they hunt and kill?

Pucky wasn’t even a mascot until after the team left. He was just the shoulder patch through most of the 80’s. The only actual physical mascot they had was Wally the Whaler and he was basically the Islanders fisherman and I think he lasted 1 year?

this is something I don’t think is getting said enough. If there’s anyone in the league with an insight into the mind of Rod it’s Paul Maurice. You might say that should cut both ways and maybe it should but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these two teams play a similar style

Rod’s gotta dig into the memory bank for tonight’s speech. The Canes dropped both games at home against the Canadiens back in 2006, including a brutal 6-1 loss in Game 1. Then we won four straight, three of them in Montreal’s barn.

We’re not out of this…

It’s time to say f*** the Eastern Conference curse. Let’s go win a goddamn hockey game in the Eastern Conference Finals!
