Would be a nice option in Calgary - especially if he wants to play C. We desperately need one of those for the future.

Andersson would probably be interesting to Carolina, but that depletes Flames D. Could be worth it to get a long-term top 6 C, though.

Chicago deciding last minute that they wanted to go it alone was somehow Carolina’s fault? They didn’t choose or want to be without an ahl affiliate. Of all the things to criticize them for that’s an odd one.

Not interesting at all.
This is the quote from Waddell:

"Our depth is the American Hockey League. We looked at all the players on AHL contracts that can be signed to NHL contracts, and there are probably 20 players that if we needed a player, we wouldn't have any problem putting in our lineup. Instead of having one team as our affiliate, now we have the whole league."

They looked at an affiliate as an unnecessary expense and it was a big mistake. Dundon tried to tell a team he didn't own who should play goal for them, then said they didn't need the Wolves. The Wolves told them they weren't welcome back based on THEIR actions. Then they decided they don't need an AHL affiliate and the entire AHL without NHL contracts could be their pool of players...

Isn’t Necas value pretty similar to Casey Mittelstadt’s

I mean mittelstadt might have slightly more value as a centre, but the age, recent statistical profile and contract situation are similar.

Going back a few years, but the Kevin Fiala and Sam Reinhart situations are kinda similar too

If Carolina is looking for a RHD I wonder if Hronek is a fit (if Canucks are looking to move on). Maybe add Hoglander/Podkolzin and a D prospect from Carolina.

You know the Wolves caved right?

And they agreed to let the Hurricanes make all the hockey operations decisions for them for the next three years?

The Wolves were finally forced to accept that they need a NHL parent club. It’s that or spend a ton of money to come in dead last again as an independent AHL team.

So the Canes will be telling the Wolves who’s playing goal for them.

Yeah honestly I’d love to know Canes fans energy toward a Hronek for Necas swap. What needs to be added etc.

Both have arbitration rights, similar ages.

Canes need a younger top 4 RHD as Burns ages, Pesce/Chatfield potentially leave as FA and Morrow continues to develop.

Canucks need a fast, speed winger with a higher offensive pedigree to play with Pettersson.

Indifference. Hronek fills a hole, but perhaps for just a year; that’s okay as Necas only has 2 years of control himself. If Hronek is pricing himself out of a situation in which he’s not otherwise expendable, fitting in Carolina’s long-term structure is not a good bet.

I’d like a mid-term 2nd pair D for stability. If Pesce’s expectation has softened after a 13 point contract year, re-signing him would be ideal. Keeps him in the room and Nikishin has an ideal partner for his early career. Do something else with Necas.

An NHL top-4 RHD or an NHL 2C or a comparable different style of wing, ideally more of a sniper or net-front presence (especially if we lose Guentzel in FA)...obviously we'd add onto Necas as the centerpiece for the goal-scorer.

Not interested in picks. You'd have to wow us to do specs. Don't bother offering Jokiharju...we've seen him play.

I like the Sabres as a trade partner, but expect this is a repeat of last offseason when we couldn't get Pesce to Buffalo done at the draft because Adams wouldn't part with roster players and we weren't interested in the futures offered.
Rasmus Andersson? Jacob Markstrom and Kuzmenko?

Unless the Canes want to run a right side of only offensively-minded D, Hronek for Necas doesn’t make much sense.

Burns-Hronek-Morrow? Doesn’t make much sense. If they didn’t have Burns signed next season, would seem to make sense, but…

Pretty sure if Necas does get moved either a center or a goalie needs to be coming back. Canes have Morrow and Nikisin coming in the future.

No reason to bring back a goalie. Unless Andersen retires they will stick with the Kochetkov-Andersen tandem prepping Kochetkov to take over as the 1A by 25-26 at the latest.

Martin was signed as a #3 and will be in Chicago unless/until Andersen is hurt.

Hronek isn’t good. We’d be paying 7+ million per year for a 4.5 million player
As a Canuck fan and i don't really care to try and create some narrative that he's better than he is he's actually really really good. Hear me out

I was pissed when we traded for him. Thought we overpaid and that he was mostly an offensive guy who's skating was just just ok and defending he would suck.

The truth is he's a great skater (quick explosive and really good 4 way mobility) he plays with intensity and pace moves pucks really well has a bomb of a shot good at walking the offensive blue line and is actually a good defender (really good in 1v1 as he's fairly strong and moves incredibly well to hold positioning.) He also hinges and transitions as good as almost anyone which is great to keep teams under pressure

He's sort of a poor man Makar in how he plays and moves around in a lot of aspects but....on the negative and the not Makar

He has some issues in zone with his decision making under pressure. His stretch pass timing and accuracy is just average. His offensive IQ is not high end as he's mostly reliant on instincts and athleticism vs having the patience and quality that a top end producer would. His shots get blocked too often and even when he gets an open look he cant hit corners he just blasts away and hopes for the best it seems.

He also has a history of weaker 2nd halves and tapered off for us even though he was still reliable as a defender transition guy he wasn't producing at the same rate. Our team insider (Dan Murphy) informed he had a shoulder injury that was effecting him so not sure what that means going forward. He definitely struggled at getting anything going in his first playoff and his shot wasn't a thing until late against the Oilers when he scored on a bomb. I would suggest inexperience also played into it and he will be better going forward healthy and knowing what to expect.

Anyway....he's easily a top pair puck mover who can log huge minutes as he has outstanding endurance and pace. He's not a quality PP1 guy but is a good PP2 option and amongst the best 20-30 RD in the NHL. He's not big and/or smart enough to be a true #1 but he's a fantastic player for the most part which is why his agent is looking for 8 million. In regards to that...he's not worth that much for the reasons explained. Somewhere between the 6.5 he's been offered and 7-7.25 is appropriate given Dunn Faulk etc and the best comps and the % they got.

He's also prime aged and going into his best 5-6yrs traditionally for skaters like him which means your getting a premium position player for a lot of years.

It's a legit return. That pick is a prospect that can be harvested for future use in trade. Necas was the centerpiece in offers for Pettersson and logically, Tkachuk. Another argument against cashing him in for someone like Hronek.

Sign a free agent to offset his lost production in the short-term. Cap space is a part of a broader trade equation.
