How many undersized forwards can we realistically roster? Kidney (on the cusp, at 5’11), Farell, Mesar? Do you want to see all those guys in the same lineup as Caufield and RHP? Some of these will be moved eventually.

I’d rather lose Roy than Beck, which I’m afraid a counterpart might insist upon.
I don't want to lose Roy...he seems like a clutch player...I could see him playing in the NHL playoffs....talented, gritty...he has a nose for the net.

Also Bobby Mack’s rankings have Smith three so it is safe to say a ton of scouts now have him ahead of Carlsson. The idea of a 1-2 punch of Carlsson and Suzuki is amazing. Both 200 foot players that think the game well and take pride in all facets of the game. What if our centre ice ends up in the future like.
1c- Suzuki
2c-Carlsson
3c-Dach/Beck
4c-Beck/Evans

Depending if you see Dach as a centre in the future. Regardless if the draft pans out that way our centre ice position will look better then it has in 20+ years.
Trade Evans in the off-season...he's unproductive.

Roy is a dime-o-dozen prospect.

We already have RHP who's H&S better than Roy.
In the World juniors...Roy was clearly the second best Canadian player after Bedard...he's great around the net...great instincts...sound defensively.

Great performances at the U20 by players nearing the age limit is very common and an indicator of nothing. He shared the second position and didn't even have half Bedard's points, on a super stacked team.

I highly doubt he'll be anything more than a bottom 6 player.

Finally get to sign in while oversees, happy to see the pick stay at 5 but it always does seem our pick comes with more of a dilemma than others. I wonder if Hughes trades our 2nd and maybe a 4th along with our own too secure smith or Carlsson.
Kinda disappointing that the pick from florida drops so much but it is what it is, we saw the same last year for coyotes fans.

So is the plan to move up in the draft ?
I am hoping for Michkov. I think he is better then everyone not named Bedard. But I wouldn’t move up to pick him up though. So in that sens, 5th overall is the perfect place to pick him up if he is still there.

Otherwise, the guy left will be fine too.

Only thing that scares me is the Habs passing on Michkov. I think it would be a huge mistake because this team desperately needs elite talent on the offence.

TVA, RDS, The Athletic, SportsNet.. etc. etc.

I hear you. But how specific are they being ?

And whenever I see trash on a player to do with the Habs, I think about how whenever Habs management don't like a guy, there is this buzz about being a cancer in the room, me first, insubordination, lifestyle issues etc in the media. Which gets the fans to not like the player.

Or yes, could be something up with the guy. But even then, how bad, and what the heck is it. Because God damn we pass on him and in 3 years he is over here looking like Fedorov and doing 40 goals and 90 points in style, won't be good if we picked up a suped up Ryan Poehling doing the 23 goals , 55 point 2 way game.

Smith will be available at 5, if not one of the top 4 would be great.

Aside from his contract, what is the risk with Michkov?

The prestige in Russia is to come dominate the NHL. It is not to stay in the KHL. Michkov also stated his desire and dream to play in the NHL. He will be present at the draft. What more do you need?

Shipachev, Radulov, Kovalchuk. All went back to Russia on their own and had no problem coming back to the NHL.

Michkov is under contract for 3 years and thats it. Teams wont oversee his development but who cares? What do you need to develop with him? He is already a top tier, super elite talent.

Let me tell you, if the war escalates to a point and all occidentals have to leave Russia and all Russians have to come back home. We might have some way bigger problems than who we will draft at 5 and if he will come

I just don't see how Michkov will be drafted before Auston Matthews in the 2016 draft. No way a GM skip a 6ft3 center for a small forward like Michkov.

It is more like
McDavid
Bedard
Matthews
Mackinnon
Michkov
Still, the odds of getting such a talent, even at 1st overal are so low, that we would spit on him if available at 5?

Watch him goes 2nd right behind Bedard.

If Michkov is available at #5. Go for it. I just don't see Michkov being drafted above Mackinnon or Matthews. GM always favoured a elite center over a elite winger.

Michkov being almost as good as those two will be a huge wins for the habs. We need a 90+pts player.

The simple opportunity to get a talent like Michkov at 5th overall justify its selection even if it bust.

To get your hands on such a talent, you need to finish 32th, then you have 18% chance for the 1st overall pick. And at least 50% of the times, even the last 3 drafts, this type of talent is not even there. That is your best odds at such a talent. If you finish 30th or 31th, its even worst than that, let alone finishing 27th. So you need lottery luck in a good years. Real odds must be below 1% to get a player like him.

Its so rare of an opportunity, once in many decade actually.

So like i said, the simple opportunity to draft such a talent at 5th overall justify in itself all of the risk there is associated.
