That's not what he's saying.

He's just saying even if Michkov wasn't Russian or had a lengthy contract, he would still go no higher than 4th, because he's a small winger.

Bedard, Fantilli & Carlsson are going 1-2-3 regardless.

Michkov isn't falling to 4th due to Russian factor. He's falling to 4th because top 3 are really good. They also have the extra advantage of not having the Russian factor.
You might want to reread my post, because you're basically saying what I wrote so I'm really confused right now.

Seems like an overpay if you include Roy. Harris embodies a position of strength, on the other hand.
How many undersized forwards can we realistically roster? Kidney (on the cusp, at 5’11), Farell, Mesar? Do you want to see all those guys in the same lineup as Caufield and RHP? Some of these will be moved eventually.

I’d rather lose Roy than Beck, which I’m afraid a counterpart might insist upon.

Yeah I think I'll just take the easy route and hang on to 5, I won't be very disappointed if we end up with Smith at all. I just would prefer Carlsson or Michkov.

Anyone of them would still be our best prospect.

You really don't want the option of Michkov huh? I know there's a cloud of uncertainly with the choice, but I honestly don't see Hughes passing on him at 5 if he's still there.
Michkov is really interesting. If he’s drafted beforehand so be it. Take Smith and be happy.

If not, I don’t see how we can’t take him. He broke OV’s records in Russia. He may not have OV’s size but the talent is there. Draft him and wait the year or two.

Friedman on the 32TP podcast says he was shocked at how many people in the league he considers smart thought the lottery was rigged.

He adds that it's understandable to hear this coming from fans getting emotional, but there, people from the league, teams and all believed it was rigged. - Via NHL Watcher

Don't drop the balls live, this is what happens
Nobody likes the procedure. Who likes and can trust balls being blown into a tube. I would rather see a nice young lady from Ernst & Young loading a drum with the requisite balls crank the drum and reaching in through a trap door and grab one ball at a time sight unseen. Rinse and repeat until the lottery is done. It would make for much better television than watching Bill Daley flip cards. People would also trust it a whole heck of a lot more.

Get a celebrity who is a hockey fan to replace Bill Daley. And yes, do it live, would be much more entertaining.

It would be genuinely hilarious if HuGo traded up to 3oa, or more realistically 4oa, using a package including the CGY 1st (Monahan).

Ironically having to pay back our profit because Monahan contributed to making our pick non-top 4 early in the season.
I posted in April:
Monahan had points in 6 games that ended up a W by one goal.
More importantly, he provided depth beyond a single line, like we've had since Christmas. 17 points in 25 games.

It would be akin to a kid whose little scam was uncovered by his parents and was forced to "give it back" with reparation.

Personally I would still do it - I wrote before that we can afford to outright lose the trade with our depth.
I don't agree with the latest public trend where Smith is part of a top 5, I think he's just a guy in the next tier with one of the highest pure offensive ceiling. Still a worthy asset, don't get me wrong.
I'd much rather be talking about any of Fantilli/Carlsson/Michkov than any of Fantilli/Carlsson/Michkov/Smith, and having to hope CBJ go galaxy brain.

Not for generational, Bedard >>>>> Carlson

But Benson is <<< Fantili, Carlson, Michkov, and maybe smith

for similar talents, i take smith at 6" before Benson, and Dvorsky before Benson.

if Michkov is available at 5, you pick him and run before someone call the police :)...
Put the puck in the corner and ask Smith and Benson to fight for it and the winner is the one who get out of the corner with the puck and I'm confident that Benson win this game 9/10. Benson play way bigger then Smith

That is a legitimate question, but you didn't mention those guys. You mentioned Roy, who is 6'. And by all accounts, talented.

i really hope either the sharks or cbj draft will smith. i feel like the habs need more left-handed players.

michkov, carlsson, dvorsky are my picks. i wouldn't even be mad if we take benson or barlow.

Slaf wasn’t there, was he?

There was no issue about Slaf coming over though and seeing him play in person. I think for Hughes it will be a problem as he will want us seeing him in the flesh and speaking with him, taking to dinner etc. And if he isn't at the Combine Hughes won't have that chance. I want Michkov to be an option for us and would hate it if Hughes hits him with a DND. Hard to use a 5OA on a guy you only see on video.

Just for fun ...

Best draft outcome ; we pick Michkov at 5 and he become the best player of the 2023 draft

Worst outcome: we skip Michkov for Dvorsky, Leonard, Reinbacher, benson... and Michkov is the best (or second best) of the 2023 draft ... lol

I corrected that in the post you replied to. He’s not grouped with Kidney, Mesar, Farrell.

I have him in a separate paragraph as you singled him out as someone you’d prefer not to see traded.

Best draft outcome is Carlsson falling to 5 and it isn't remotely close.

Carlsson isn't guaranteed to become a franchise/star player.

Some see him as 2nd liner as he lacks high end skill.

(don't shoot the messenger, just sayin', and yes I love his size.... we all love his size)

Who’s having this dream?

Where’s Carlsson? :sarcasm:

Forget the other names, there's only one I care about on there...

That’s a huge statement and would change everything if warranted. Where do the best draft specialists stand on this?
