Friedman on the 32TP podcast says he was shocked at how many people in the league he considers smart thought the lottery was rigged.

He adds that it's understandable to hear this coming from fans getting emotional, but there, people from the league, teams and all believed it was rigged. - Via NHL Watcher

Don't drop the balls live, this is what happens

i don’t want to rag on Reinbacher or Dvorsky, as they’ll probably be good players. I’ll be supportive of either if we draft them. It just seems so anticlimactic to miss drafting a monster by so little.

San jose could be a good fit for Michkov
Maybe. But, they may never consider him. It could depend on who Jarmo picks between Smith and Carlsson. What if SJ would take Michkov if Smith drops to them but not if Carlsson drops to them?

Those of you thinking that the best case scenario is for CBJ to select Smith may not have considered how it might impact SJ’s decision-making. We can’t really know until they make their pick.

If the Habs are not willing to leave it to chance, then the only other way to proceed if they don’t want to draft Michkov is to transact their risk by either trading up or down.

Teams are allowed to send representatives to watch the lottery as it happens. Most of them don't. Aaron Portzline of The Athletic (who covers Columbus) was one of 3 media members who attended the lottery and were in the room when the balls were picked out. Seravalli was another and someone who writes for the Associated Press was there also.

Portzline said only two teams sent representatives (Arizona was one and I forget who the other team was. Habs didn't sent one). But every team is allowed to send someone to witness the process and confirm the legitimacy.

Portzline also specified that they use the same balls for the second lottery. So if for example it was rigged to have weighted balls to ensure a specific team's code is picked for the #1 pick, then those same weighted balls would come out for the second lottery. But it's not the case.

All this to say that if teams and certain executives feel it was rigged, then all they had to do was send a representative to watch as it all happened and report back to his team. But only two did that this year.

Some of you (not you specifically) are dramatic af lol, let's wait until we pass on him before making claims like that. For all we know, he might not even make it to 5.

RDS/TVA were on the Slaf hype train leading up to draft day IIRC.

I'm fairly certain I remember a lot of people on here mentioning that they're putting the PR to work by preparing us for the non-Wright selection.
But not two months in advance.

It’s not McKenzie, it’s the scouts he polled which I would take more seriously than some of the so called draft experts. McKenzie’s reputation is one of the best in the business so if he says some scouts have Smith Top 3 then who am I to argue…..obviously this doesn’t mean that Smith will automatically be drafted Top 3 as some of the scouts he polled may not even be picking in the Top 10 and opinions may change based on the World Championships.
The real Mac report comes in june. This was just a teaser, with much less scouts.

Just gonna put it out there... If Bedard, Fantilli, Michkov and Carlsson are all gone when we pick, I don't think our pick will be Dvorsky, Reinbacher or Smith. I think it will be Moore or Benson. Why? Although I am no scout and don't claim to be, I've watched and read a bit about all of these players and based on the kind of player we drafted last year and listening closely to what Hughes/MSL's "vision" for what kind of team and style of play they're shooting for, I think Benson/Moore fit that mold better than the other prospects that will be available.

I could be all wrong too, but we'll see...

Yeah but he’s on record saying he knows better now. That said for Michkov it won’t be a PR issue, it’s a financial risk if it delays / prevent the return of playoff $
In which sense ? It is more a hockey risk.

It will be Smith. 100% sure. Hughes knows him very well.

It won't be Moore.. there's more noise of him going in the mid/late teens than top 10,

There’s a corporate culture in clubs and Bobrov has nothing to do with setting in. In certain NHL teams you would never suggest Michel Therrien as a coaching candidate or think Mailloux needs to be thoroughly scouted.
You think the team culture is set by Molson, right? Not by HuGo. Right?

Look it’s hockey. It’s just a game. But it’s fair game to give a bit of push back at the rumored scenario. I’m 100% behind Mailloux making it big even though I was not a fan of how we got here.

This is ofcoure true, noone knows how it's gonna shake out. I'm only dreaming of taking who's left a 5 between the 3, I personally ain't trading up or down. That said in my dreams the order of who most i'd like to see at 5 would be Carlsson, Michkov and then Smith. I'd be happy with any of the 3, they'll all be great gets. But the real prize for me would be either Carlsson or Michkov.

But as I said I'm just dreaming. I'm thinking we'll most likely end up with Smith.
