I hope the rumours about either Michkov, Benson are true because if it is, there’s no reasons to panic until the draft. It’s gonna be either Smith, Michkov, Leonard or Benson.

I think #2 is a huge goal of Kent.
that being said, I had mentioned Benson long time back.... don't forgot about him
I don't think Kent really wants to move up at all. He's not the type of GM to give to up good pieces for a non slam dunk.

I saw someone willing to trade 5, 31, Hutson, and Calgary's 1st next year for #2.

What the f***.

He doesn't kill penalties like Benson.

And Benson is 1/4 his size but you'd swear he's the power forward in comparison.

I prefer Benson to both players.
Not every players are gonna be the same type… Smith doesn’t need to be a power forward.

No, he doesn't. But that's another mark that he doesn't fill.

So he's elite offensively? So is Benson. He's got elite vision? Yeah, so does Benson but in all 3 zones. He doesn't use this size? Well, Benson does and plays way bigger than he is. He kills penalties? Cool, Benson turns penalty kills into powerplays. Smith isn't terrible defensively? Awesome, but Benson is the best defensive forward in the draft.

So if Michkov is as good as I believe he is and comes in 3 years and becomes one of the games brighter stars, you'd not regret this decision?

Because I'm saying no matter what, even if it's a complete fiasco, (highly unlikely) I won't regret a Michkov selection.

That's how much I believe he's the right pick at 5.
If Michkov doesn't come here for 5 years, at which point Smith/Leonard/Benson/etc... already have multiple 70+ point seasons under their belt, and ends up finally being a giant flop, you wouldn't regret taking him? Come on.

My only point is this...if they pick Reinbacher, MOSTLY BASED ON NEEDS because RD....
Is there anything that Hughes has done that would signal that he’d decide such an early pick on the basis of need? I get how the past management contingent may have done it but the management currently in place don’t give me that impression at all.

That's right. In this moment here and now, not 5 years from now I believe Michkov is the right choice. And would stand in my conviction of that decision no matter the outcome. I firmly believe he would be the BPA at 5 if available, and its not even up for debate for me.

It's a draft pick, anything can happen after the choice that may blow up in my face, but at the time of the pick it would have been the right one. Atleast in my estimation.

I do not believe it will take 5 years for him to get here either, the idea of him extending his stay in the KHL makes no sense to me at all.

Benson would be an enormous mistake, if they draft him they are doing a Bergevin and setting the team back another decade. Hudon 2.0

I’m waiting to find out if those running St-Petersburg SKA are mobsters, extortionists and henchmen.

And if they are, how is Bobrov’s father still working for them?

Also, are they the reason that ponds in Russia have become a drowning hazard?

If the answer to any of the above is yes, the it will take more than 5 years for Michkov to get here. :sarcasm:

Why do I feel it was wrong for me to laugh at this? I'm sure I'll get scolded for it later. :) Everything is so over dramatic these days.

Hard to say. I think he could be a Jarvis type but that's not the type of target we should be after for an undersized forward. I'd make the exception for Michkov but not Benson.

A few months ago, fans in our herd voted Benson more than Smith. I don't hate Benson but he's clearly in the waive after the top 5.

Its highly likely Smith goes 4th to San Jose

According to what? Media spins prior to the draft?
