You might but let's be honest about this fan base, they will take any narrative and twist it to fit.

A lot of these Michkov or bust fans will literally turn if someone after Michkov becomes a star and he doesn't come over or isn't a star himself.

"Everyone knew the contract and the geopolitical situation was a red flag and we took him anyway. Bobrov sucks. Another bust in the top 10. Took a smurf who can't skate, classic Montreal"

They'll get demolished no matter what they do unless they hit it out of the park.
It,s all about result in the end. No matter your field of work. Not sure why it should be different for them. Also, it's fans perspective vs pros perspective. They should know 99.9% more stuff than we do. We have our list based on what we know. Yes, if they didn't do their due diligence, they should be called for it. But I guess they will.

But as far as I'm concerned, while I would pick Michkov.....I will be glad to have Smith, Benson or Leonard on my team.

My only point is this...if they pick Reinbacher, MOSTLY BASED ON NEEDS because RD....they BETTER make sure he'll become a top 2D. The only way they will be applauded for having make that pick. 'Cause the not so hard prediction to make is that players chosen after Reinbacher will play a key role. Players that if we would go BPA, should have been chosen ahead. As of today, Reinbacher has not proven that he could add the offensive points than a Seider did. Not even close. And if our analysis is that he's the new Jay Bouwmeester...well I,m not even sure in redraft that Bouw is a top 5 pick. Top 10? Surely. But top 5...maybe only because 2002 was really weak.

If we're taking Michkov, I'll be thrilled even if it takes 3 years. If we take Smith over Michkov or even Benson, I'll puke.

Smith feels like a Toronto Maple Leafs player.
Disagree. Even though I'm a big fan of both Benson and Leonard's type of hockey, you can't disregard the pure talent of Smith. OF course, as Habs fans, we'd drool over talent with some grind. Like Benson and Leonard. I understand that. And would welcome it. But at one point...you can't disregard stats. And all 3 of those players on that line will be top 15 because of the same stats. Was Smith always driving that line? Nope. Not always. But quite often. He wasn't just a passenger.

And if we pass when he becomes a top player we are going to hear "well it was obvious he was the BPA but it was too risky at the time"..

Benson is more talented than Smith.

I swear something similar happened to Seth Jones too, maybe I'm misremembering.
I could understand drafting Mackinnon and Barkov. I has surprise Tampa Bay draft Drouin above Seth Jones. Jones has a perfect fit for Tampa Bay.

Let's all remember that Kent Hughes is an agent at heart...misinformation is part of his DNA.
“I’m not picking Michkov!!”

Anyway, I think the whole Michkov at distance is overblown. <snip>. Even if the Russian thing does escalates(which it probably won’t), I think you can find ways to make the distance work, if Michkov doesn’t think he is Jesus…

That shouldn’t be hard to figure out.
I'm going to preface this by saying, I would pick Michkov (with the very limited data that I have). Homerun or strikeout for me.

With that said, if this Russian thing DOES escalate...umm...we are talking war with Russia. Sorry, if that becomes true, there is absolutely no way Michkov will play in the NHL (well unless the war starts and ends really quickly, everyone forgives, and everyone can all sit around a campfire and sing Kumbaya...yeah right). Hell, there would be a good chance he'll be forced to pick up arms (and consequently, a good chance he would not survive).

Now, if that happens, well, no one here would care either as we'll all have bigger problems to deal with than worrying about the Habs.

So with that in mind, yeah, just go for Michkov (if we feel he has the largest upside) and see where the chips fall. If the world goes nuts, we would forget we drafted Michkov anyhow. If not, he could be the next superstar that we have been waiting two decades for.

Reporters trying to put Reinbacher in our mouth as 5 to be fine are the same that changed their opinions when habs drafted Armia son's last year with the first OA saying his potential was bigger than me , Margot robbie and Megan Fox roleplaying as college students while looking at me.

What is so complicated to pick a BPA jesus Christ they are paid millions to pick the dumbest solutions when the simplest one is literally in front of them.
listen guy, you’re repeating the same thing again and again, blasting Habs management about the selection they will make…

All that without knowing if Michkov will be picked before our selection or who the Habs are going to select, without knowing any details about all the informations Habs are getting in their hands and , to end , with a total refusal to consider the geopolitical situation of Russia.

I think that we all have understood that you want Habs to select Michkov, this for a while. So it would be very kind from you to reduce those redundant messages about something that isn’t happened yet . Thanks

Best scenario for MOST posters here would be Michkov at 5, and in the meantime, get another Dach project going as a forward or RD. Or the PLD scenario.

This IS the last year we finish bottom 5. So while waiting for Michkov, the program will start its acceleration this summer.

Correct?

Everyone seems to forget that hugo is a genius builder. Hasn't made a bad move yet. Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Hughes wants mitchkov at #5 so much so that he is scaring the other GMs and media into a frenzy so Mitchkov is indeed available at #5?
That would be step 1 = make Mitchkov available at #5.
Step 2 = now that he is available, he either (2a) selects him (win) or (2b) now trades the pick to the Flyers/Caps for +++ (win) then picks the real target at #7/8 - Leonard, Benson, etc...

In both scenarios, everything is according to plan. Very smart move.

If he passes on Mitchkov and DOESNT trade back, then yes, he will lose my respect.

You need to understand where each poster stands. I got irrate at my Rangers de Mtl-Est bud yesterday, but I shouldn’t have. We know his stance and I should have just accepted it. I had a bad moment there.

Was still a funny moment tho.

I am expecting the Habs get a top 10ish pick next year and then they keep getting better.

Michkov arrives when they make the playoffs… boom.

I didn't call him a passenger. Far from it. He's a very good player. But I think he's going to be the epitome of a regular season player. Give me Benson who will kill penalties at an elite level and keep the puck out of our net while mirroring Adam Oates with his insane vision... the best since Connor McDavid.

If we were drafting 6th or 7th, I'd be very content with Smith.

Of course it's occured to me , I'm certainly not claiming to know who they are likely to pick.

As you say, there is every incentive to not tip their hat as to who they want.

My post was about the fan reaction, not whether they would actually pick him. We gotta wait for that.

Why? Because Smith doesn’t back check hard enough for your liking and cut passes with his stick in the D zone instead of hitting? Michkov doesn’t even know there’s another 100ft after the blue line but no one talks about that.

Smith kills penalties too btw.

He doesn't kill penalties like Benson.

And Benson is 1/4 his size but you'd swear he's the power forward in comparison.

I prefer Benson to both players.
