Nice. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in Laval. McNiven and Primeau should be a solid duo.
Newest phase of his career beginning at this instant. Tomorrow an adult, man. Everything can happen very quickly. He’ll have to prove anew what he got. Be more than ready.

Exactly what I think will happen ! Like Schneider with Brodeur or Schneider/Luongo. I don’t want a see Price with an other team then the Habs.

I think Price has accepted his chance at a Cup is extremely low playing here. But out of all the great goaltenders who’ve played in our organization, how many can say they played here almost two decades here and survived. I think that’s his biggest motivation. Price isn’t going anywhere unless something severe happens.

Why ? He’s here for at least 5 years. In 5 years, Suzuki Poehling Ylonen Romanov Brook Fleury with KK Domi Mete Drouin (or the asset we got for him ) Lehkonen will be in there prime and Gally Weber will probably be still here. I think we could compete for a Cup there. I know there alote of ?? And some prospect in that goupe will bust but we never know and don’t forget that we have alote of capspace

To many question marks with questionable management. We’ll see. But our current management, as well as former has shown nothing as far as putting together teams that can realistically win. Any team can pick out prospects they have promise for, doesn’t mean they’ll do anything once they get to the big leagues.

Great signing that gives this organization options. He could develop into a #1 or be used as trade bait

I really hope this kid can be Price’s replacement down the road but with $10.5 million on the books for 7 more years, Primeau will be 27 when Price retires. We could be developing a really good goalie for another team which is a shame.

Bring Primeau in at ~24 and have him back up Price for 2-3 years.

Isn't Primeau an RFA until 27? That gives us until the end of Price's contract.

If he does end up good, there’s zero chance he sticks around until his mid-late 20’s. He’ll see the situation here.

You missed my edit...but isn't he an RFA until 27 (or his 3rd contract, whichever comes first)? Where can he go?

This contract will be up when he's 23...sign him to another 3 year contract and then you have him until 26.

That’s also dependant on the contracts he’s willing to sign. Like I said, if he knows he has opportunities elsewhere, he simply won’t sign with us. And because he’s a goalie, he won’t have enough of an offersheet loss for us to gain on it. We lose out.

You reply quick. You missed me edit again lol. This contract will be up when he's 23...sign him to another 3 year contract (realistic) and then you have him until 26. At that point, Price will only have 1 year left.

I would think that's a pretty promising situation if I were Primeau.

Sucks that we are developing what looks like league average goaltending behind Price while paying Price $10.5M.

Over 2000 shots, Price's save % of .917 would save 14 more shots than a goalie that posts a .910. But we could be paying league minimum for the .910 and put $10.5M somewhere else.

14 shots.

I don't know if there is a bigger disconnect in sports economics than NHL goalie valuations.

Or another way you can look at it is 14 more goals, my guess is that’s 3 to 4 extra losses, ooppps, we no more in a playoff hunt........and then there’s the way the team plays in front of Price vs a .910 goalie

Is the 3-4 losses based on an assumption that a different allocation of cap space doesn’t lead to more goals for?

It’s based on the extra 14 goals.......

Yes or no, is there an assumption that despite a different allocation of cap space there is no increase in scoring?

Would you accept those 14 goals against with 25 more for?

Who’s the player you’re talking about that’s gonna give us 25 extra goals....who’s spot is he taking on our current roster??

It’s hypothetical, obviously. I’m not sure why you require such specificity.

Why does it have to be one player replacing one player? Why can’t it be multiple incremental upgrades?

Please quote for me specifically, or in the original post, where it was claimed the increase would come from one player.

Never mind. Of course you love the Price contract. You were an Alzner guy.

Well those players must be replacing top 6 players on our roster, need to make up 14 goals against, then 25 goals.....that’s quite the player!!

Why make up 14 goals? Where did you invent that?

25 more for is a net increase of 9. Do you accept that, or is this point arguable?

Again, please quote why you continue to proceed on the assumption of it being one player? You are doubling down in this now.

Explain specifically why the 25 goals must be attained by the top 6 exclusively, and why an increase in goals from the D and bottom 6 would not be equally effective. Are you suggesting that goals scored by the top 6 are somehow different.

Yes there's 7 years left to Price's contract but he might play 30/35 games a year for the last 2 years of his contract. It means Primeau could play 2 years in the AHL, 3 years as Price's back up then 1st goalie in 5 years, if his development goes well. He'd be 24.
