I really hope this kid can be Price’s replacement down the road but with $10.5 million on the books for 7 more years, Primeau will be 27 when Price retires. We could be developing a really good goalie for another team which is a shame.

Assuming we sign a legit backup for next season (I wouldn't risk it with Lindgren, we have plenty of cap space anyway to improve at that position) it will be an interesting competition between Primeau, Lindgren and McNiven for Laval starts.

I would think the option is to have Lindgren back up, if he doesn't prove his mettle in pre-season.. you can likely claim or acquire a goalie for a mid round pick.

Yeah, I edited my post, I am personally not very high on him, I would sign a proven backup if I was the GM.

I’d give him some regular season games unless he really screws the pooch in preseason. Lindgren should’ve been the backup this year. That fluke 20 game stretch Niemi had in a nothing season hurt us this year as we’ve had to ride Price way to hard during the most important stretch.

Seems like it’s up or out time for Lindgren. If he isn’t the backup next year, turn the page.

Absolutely and that's really how I would play it.. if he isn't good enough in pre-season, waive him or trade him, then claim a goalie being sent down that your pro scouts do like or find a goalie in a log jam and make a trade for them. Toronto moved out both McElhinney and Pickard this year.

Does the fact that Price is signed for 7 years means that he will play with Habs for 7 seasons ? Trade exists

I’d even give Lindgren some starts to see how he looks.

Goalies seem like the toughest position to project from AHL.

If we don’t make playoffs, not testing him this season will be a bit if a wasted opportunity.

I wouldn't worry about the Price situation too much... If Primeau is good enough to replace Price we'll have significantly more options than we do now.

Also I forsee more compliance buyouts on the horizon, another lockout is what, 2 years away?

You’re right. It doesn’t. With Price’s injury history, he would be easy to throw on LTIR. I don’t see him being traded. I think his legacy will be playing with the Habs his entire career. He’s also in full control because of the NMC. But if he is still playing, I can see a Luongo/Schneider situation if everything goes right for Primeau developing. I just hope whoever is in charge of the team in the future is able to make a better decision then they did if that does happen.

A lot of the same arguments i heard when Lindgren came up.

Wait and see. The futures not ours to see.

More great news. It's been a good day

Definitely a fun few days for prospects news.

- Brook joined Laval.
- Poehling signs.
- Primeau signs.

And lower on the prospects news front is Samuel Houde getting an ATO with Laval earlier today. As well as Matthew Struthers of North Battalion of the OHL.
