Chris Callahan is Ryan Drury.

That's all.

New identity should revolve around Hags, Stepan and McDonagh. Either one could be groomed as fine captains down the road. With McDonagh, he certainly always leads by example out there.

And Drury was still a good player and never stopped being a good player. He ran into horrible injury problems and had a brutal contract [a contract that Callahan's comes nowhere close to]

Callahan is similar to Drury. He's a good checker and defensive player who can provide a spark and will score a bunch of PP goals. That's what he is. I don't know what you're expecting out of Callahan.

Chris Drury was a great hockey player for his entire career except for his rookie season (even there he broke 40 points) and his last two.

If Callahan has that run, I will be freaking thrilled.

I'm sorry, but this is absolutely absurd.

**** like this is why NYR fans have reputations of being bipolar, and why I call this fanbase the Chicken Littles of the hockey world: one loss and the sky is falling.

This is an embarrassment of a post. Not good in the playoffs? Are you ****ing kidding me? The man has won us games with his effort on the PK and blocking shots alone.

Absolute joke of a post. Embarrassing.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I remember Dubinsky singly-handily winning games, I don't ever recall Callahan with those types of games.

Geez, I wonder what kind of ray of sunshine Kershaw would be if we lost like the Islanders did yesterday, or to a team that's not on top of the east, or with our best player, or in a game where we actually were outplayed.

Absolutely. Drury was a 1C for a couple of years. I am strictly talking in terms of Rangers performance. Drury had a good 1st year here, but gradually, excuses were coming in because he was a heart and soul player.

That's exactly what I expect from Callahan. Do I think he is the answer though, especially long term, not in my opinion. This sterns a lot from my viewings of him in the playoffs. Too many excuses, not enough results.

What answer? Answer to what?

Same here!

I am talking the Rangers Drury, not the Sabres Drury who was just a beast out there.

The answer to what exactly?

Our offense? No, never has been, never will be. He's not that kinda player.

The captaincy? I don't see why not. That's not something that's based on production. That's based on leading by example which Callahan always has despite not being the most talented guy in the world.

He didn't get that letter on his jersey because he scores alot. He got it because he puts his body on the line and is a high-energy player. He's still doing those things. Beats Richards who might as well not be on the ice when he's not scoring.

This board is really unbearable in a loss. Crazy assanine things come out. Cally isnt a great fit for this team with everuthing he does? Geez

Since I believe I started the talk about Callahan, I have to comment.

I think Callahan is a great leader, does a ton of little things well, and is a great asset. I do NOT wnt him traded, cut, exiled, etc. And I'd like to see him on the power play - somebody has to get in front of the net while the rest of the team waltzes around on the outside until they make their 54th pas in a row to the other team who clears the puck and we take forever to get back into the zone.

Nonetheless, he hasn't been the same player this year, and tonight some of his shifts were abysmal.

I only brought it up because people are jumping on MDZ, Richards, Gaborik (with reason) and Stepan (without).

Ok. Now you're just playing Devil's advocate or something. Because this is just garbage. I'm sorry, but Ryan Callahan =/= Chris Dreary. And that is all. So that team is not undefeated because we have Ryan Callahan, our notorious 4th line grinder, as you like to call him. The only team that Callahan is on the fourth line for is Team USA.

Your hate for Callahan has just reached levels of absurdity. WE should trade him for a fourth line pick while he still has some value.

U wouldnt even know the Rangers are 4-1-1 in their last 6 games reading these posts. If you win 4 of every 6 newsflash thats pretty damn good and they havent even shown us what they can do yet. It took the heat a whole year too. New players its going to take time. Also the system has sucked and still does that is all

Okay? Can you reference to me which games Callahan has 'won on his own' like you claim he has?

Here's Dubinsky:

He led all skaters in ice time with 25+ minutes in regulation, played both PK/PP, was out ES against Ovechkin/Backstrom constantly. Remind you, this was with Staal, McDonagh, Girardi in the lineup.

Fluke goal.

The problem is they've looked largely horrible doing it. Now that's a double-edged sword.

You have to think if they can win even now, they're really gonna soar when they're clicking. But you also have to wonder, now 15 games in, when exactly they're gonna start clicking.

Well so nice of you to bring up the 2011 playoffs, which Callahan missed because he dove in front of a 100+MPH slap shot from Chara. That's some horrible captain material right there. Agreed.

Plus they outplayed the Habs for most, if not all of the game. Lost by a goal (en doesn't matter). You'd think we got blown out and were on a 5 game losing streak.

This board has their scapegoats regardless of the game everyone just watched. It's always Stepan, Gaborik, Richards and Del Zotto's fault. Not Staal, who turned the puck over at the blueline. Not Callahan, who failed to break up the play and who really hasn't played well this year. Not even Stralman, who slide all over the crease there but failed to pick up either of the 2 wide open Canadiens in front of Henrik.

Can we all for a moment imagine if Del Zotto had done what Stralman did there? Admittedly I've only read the last few pages but I've seen a lot of MDZ bashing and little directed at Stralman or Staal.

I think we MIGHT be being a bit hard on Kersh.

Dubi and Cally were similar players, Dubi was more offensively inclined, Cally defensively.

Cally was able to put it together a bit better in my opinion.

So Dubinsky played one solid game in the playoffs where he scored a lucky goal and that makes him better than Callahan?

The guy has 25 goals in his last 164 games. That's 25 goals over two full seasons. Callahan had 29 in one season last year.

Looked good in 3 of the wins (Isles, Lightning, Caps).

Can't speak for the post game thread, but as the goal was scored I would say almost everyone put the blame on Staal for diving in the GDT.

The lockout is killing this team

This lockout ******** really threw a wrench into this teams momentum. Coming off an ECF appearance and a major offseason deal the last thing this team needed was a January start. I said it to all my hockey friends before the season started that I didn't give 2 ***** about this season and that I'd rather them lose the whole season at the point we were at. I felt the same way about the season after the WSH win as I do after losing to MTL tonight; this isn't a knee jerk reaction. I don't give a **** that the other teams are dealing with all the same things. The coaching staff and players use this as a ******** cop out when talking to the media but you can see on Torts' face that he absolutely despises the shortened season. His coaching mentality is completely different from last year which he's admitted several times due to the shortened season. Richards played his worst hockey game since he was a Peewee tonight but I'm not gonna throw the guy under the bus just yet. He didn't play anywhere during the missed time and he missed the joke of a training camp that they had the week before the season. The way some posters were attacking him on Twitter is disgusting. I don't care how much he makes he's still a human being and he's still a Ranger.

This team made a huge trade in the offseason and desperately needed a preseason and training camp to gel and learn the system the right way. What we have right now is a carousel of players that are having a difficult time playing together. Can't blame them either considering the lines stay the same for about 4 seconds.

What?? We won 4-1 vs the Islanders, 5-1 vs the Leafs, completely outplayed Boston for the whole game minus 5 minutes in the 3rd period, outplayed the Islanders with the exception of the 2nd period (and probably would have won with Hank in goal), completely dominated the Capitals (despite the score being 2-1) and did alot of good things tonight even without our best player.
