Yea I always find it comical how folks on here give certain players a free pass.. Cally hasn't done much of anything this year but seems he always gets the free pass.. Maybe cause he's a homey?.. Not sure but I still think if you watch the little things Stepan does with the puck he out performs most of his Ranger mates night in and night out.. Granted needs work on his skating but he may be.. Just maybe the smartest HP on this team..

Cally gets his pass not because he is a home grown player, but because he does everything well. So, if he isn't scoring he still hits, blocks shots, is in good position and fights the puck free along the boards as well as even fighting sometimes, which he probably wont do anymore. haha.

Stepan hasnt hit anyone since he tried to take Green head off. He is also really weak along the boards because he is small. And by small I dont mean short, I mean skinny. He does have good positioning, but because his speed is bad if he is ever caught out of position, it could end up as a serious problem. He is a good passer too, but I cant say hes the smartest player on the team and I dont think his passing skills and hockey IQ can fully make up for his deficiencies in other areas.

I think it's outright pathetic to attack a guy over twitter anonymously and then come back here and crow for people's approval it actually makes me feel sick even though the attacks are spot on he does not deserve the contract he has. Send him your address and number then I have no problem with it it's the anonymity and entitlement of the net makes me wanna puke.

I actually like the effort I felt the two teams were just flying up and down the ice all game then again I woke from a nap when I watched the game so maybe I just felt slow?

Nash was sorely missed but so were about 5 empty nets. An unrealistic amount of empty nets were missed thosed are amazing quality scoring chances and we only gave up two goals. We also got points in our 5 games before this winning 4 of them I think and montreal is on a 5 game WIN streak for a reason. I can't kvetch about this loss because I understand that in sports your team will lose some games where they were better overall like we did against the devils.

Just seems we are a bunch of brats on here when the team loses and that twitter nonsense set me off.

They absolutely do, but it's not like the Rangers did much to change that.

Going through the motions at its finest. Snow, you know me by know, I'm usually optimistic but this team is driving me nuts with their inconsistency.

Maybe I have low standards but while we played like **** for the most part up until that 2nd goal (when I turned it off), we outplayed them. This was not the Flyers loss. It wasn't even the Bruins loss. I just feel like everyone on this board goes crazy with every loss we have. If we outshot them 50-10 and lost, you'd read "this team sucks they have no finishers", "Lundqvist sucks this year". Everyone on the team would suck.

Callahan stopped scoring because he was taken off the 1st PP unit and had his PP time severely reduced.

Considering he gets almost all of our PP goals, I'd love to know where Torts and friends got this idea from.

Callahan is the golden boy.

He will always escape criticism.

I'm sorry, but his play has been a joke this year. I don't comment on it too much, because I always get called a hater here for critiquing his play.

He to me, is the most disappointing player on this roster full of underachievers.

Girardi and McDonagh for starters, two guys who shoot the puck and can make decisions quickly.

With Stralman QBing, as opposed to Richards. Richards and Del Zotto on the point is a disaster.

It truly is. I wonder when Torts will see this. And it increases tenfold when Richards is playing like a big pile of overpriced doodoo out there. Those two just aimlessly pass the puck back and forth between themselves. No movement, no anything. Then they can't complete a simple 10 foot pass to each other and the puck bounces over one of their sticks and out of the zone.

I would try Stralman. He's the only defenseman who wants to shoot the puck on the powerplay. Because DZ surely doesn't want to. And that keep-in in the final PP, yikes!

Stralman has 2g this season. Good player, but very overrated by Rangers fans.

Agree with McDonagh and Girardi, but they're already 2nd unit guys on the PP. To me, the problem lies with putting DZ/Richards together. We need to split the two up for sure.

I honestly doubt Richards is a Ranger past this season. The poor guy just doesn't have his legs under him anymore. For whoever has actually played competitive hockey here, you know that once you are fatigued, you aren't making any more tape tot ape passes/ breakaway bursts of speed/ hustling back as much on the backcheck. The poor dude is gliding all around the ice without a care in the world until he gets the puck. Did you catch him get outmuscled by Plekanec? The guy made Richards look FOOLISH. What a terrible problem he has become, after being so clutch for us and one of our leading scorers. Enough is enough. Either start running on the treadmill every day, going jogging with the team, do cardio exercise or continue to mail it in and pretty much show a huge middle finger to the whole organization and fanbase. The same one who is paying him $12 Million this season for floating around the ice and falling down and getting outmuscled all over the ice. Until he finds his legs, he will continue to be useless. Torts s still completely mismanaging Gaborik's game He is not a good player against the boards. We need him to be the one that shoots, not carry the puck in the zone. If these two start producing, we will finally have our first view of a true NYR contender night in, night out.

Best post regarding Richards i've read on here in a long long time. Finally a fellow hockey player who understands it.

Thanks for this post. :handclap:

I can't argue with this, but really you can rip almost anyone you want. Take your pick outside of a few.

Wow, you're my hero. I'm so impressed with your composure. All the rest of us really do need to grow up.

My least favorite type of poster: People like you with the "holier than thou" B.S, think that somehow you're more rational and calculated than other posters who display emotion. IT'S A MESSAGE BOARD...THAT IS WHAT IT IS FOR!! If you don't understand that emotion is a huge part of being a fan, then I don't know what to tell you.

I can curse at the tv and stuff but good lord like I said no one murdered your dog. It's not holier than thou it's just asking for common sense and some semblance of rationality

The thing is, yes they're 2nd unit guys already but the time our 2nd unit receives compared to the 1st unit is a joke. I think that's part of the problem too.

That was part of the problem. The Rangers needed to jump on the Habs and put their foot down against a tired team. If we survived the 2nd without giving up a goal maybe we would've been fine. But still, 1-1 at home against a tired team the Rangers needed to come out with more energy than they did.

Snow, I think you do have low standards, or lower than mine, or maybe I think this team is better than they really are...I don't really know at this point.
Look, all teams will lose games, even one's where they play better than the other team. However, we should have played better/smarter against a tired team that is not better than us.

ive never been more bored with a hockey game than I was tonight....i literally kept sneaking a peak over at my wife playing plants vs zombies rather than watching that travesty.

What goals has unit 2 produced on the PP?

It's not a better option.

Saying "He's worth a shot" is overrating him? I haven't seen anyone say much more than that including the post you quoted.

It's hard to produce goals when the time is split like 80/20.

If the 1st unit was producing I could see the argument. They're not. They're not at all. So why not even up the time a little?

Some posts are a little gun-jumpy, but I mean, I don't think it's that bad. There was a lot to whine about tonight, and like someone else said, the direction of the team isn't trending the right way. Our play sucks. The lines were ideal for a few games, but that's over now.

We were supposed to be Cup contenders, so expectations are/were high.

So basically, Stralman has the same amount of goals as DZ. It's obvious that DZ/BR is a disaster. Why not try one of them + Stralman? McD and Girardi play too many minutes on ES and PK to be on the first unit for a long time, IMO.

Don't think anybody's overrating him. Most of us are just saying he could work out on the powerplay, and maybe he's more of a #4 guy, rather than a #5/#6 like he was when we first acquired him.

True, my bad.

Torts had the perfect opportunity and reasoning to reward our only goal scorer by playing him on that final PP, but nope. Time to throw Richards-DZ until something sticks.

He is in our top 4 right now and performing far better than Del Zotto in that role. That's not even up for debate right now imo. Bring up his production all you want, at least Stralman plays defense.

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Del Zotto - Stralman

Powerplay unit. Hagelin in front of the net, Nash the triggerman down low, Stralman the triggerman up top on the blueline, Del Zotto the QB, Stepan the forechecker/playmaker. Has to be better than Brad Richards and Del Zotto fumbling the puck together.

I think Callahan needs to get in there and get 1st unit time. We might as well get rid of him if we're not gonna use him for his best quality which is scoring on the PP.

If Callahan isn't getting PP time, then use that cap space for an even strength scorer.
