I actually think 15-20 years ago a world team was a much more threatening opponent than now. At that time you had Jagr, Foresberg, Federov, Lidstrom, Chelios, Leetch, Gonchar, Ozolinsh, Hull, LeClair, Bure, Sundin, Selanne, Hasek and that list could go on and on

Now I really don't see many players that could really threaten us. The Russian big three, Kane, The top three Swedish D, and Lundavist are all that would scare me

Not a bad matchup. Canada in 6

Canada is good, but not that good. In a best of 7 series: World 4, Canada 1.

Canada has chemistry and a strong defensive system with the best coaching staff in the world by far. The world teams suggested here have many players who don't make team Canada.

Look at this thread. http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=2127381

It was agreed that only Kane, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Hedman, Karlsson, and maybe Malkin, Tarasenko, and Pavelski. (as well as some backup goalies)

That is 8 players (not counting goalies) that most/many people said would make team Canada. Those 8 is not a full team so you would need to take players that would have basically no chance at making team Canada.

Team World would at best be equal to Canada BUT Canada has superior coaching and a great system the world team would not be able to recreate.

Actually the Canada lineup needs a couple revisions

McDavid would get some shifts with Crosby in place of Marchand just to try it out.

Crosby line

Benn- Giroux- Seguin (not stopping this line)
Tavares- Toews- Stamkos
McDavid- Getzlaf- Perry

Vlasic- Weber
Keith- Doughty
Subban- Burns

My team world (so much fun to come up with): As much as I wanted to get a Sedin line with someone like Tarasenko, I just couldn't justify those two at this point in their careers.

Panarin-Kopitar-Kane - Proven chemistry on the wings + the teams #1 C
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Tarasenko - Proven chemistry plus the tank
Gaudreau-Malkin-Kuznetsov - Holy hell the skill of these 3
Wheeler-Barkov-Pavelski - Tried to put together a solid 2 way line that can be big contributors on the PK as well

Suter-Karlsson
Hedman-Stralman
OEL-Josi

Lundqvist
Bishop
Schneider

The D is just gorgeous and I'm confident in Lundqvist vs anyone.

World would be favored, but not heavily. A best of 7 series would be the best hockey ever played.

Goalies: Canada (slight edge for Price)
Defense: World (What an unbelievable group)
Forwards: Toss up, I think it depends what style of play you like and there's no wrong answer in which group you'd prefer. Personally I think I prefer Canada's group

Canada could go pick 6 of

Keith
Doughty
Subban
Weber
Burns
Letang
Pietrangelo
Vlasic
Giordano

We choose to go a more defensive route as that is our system but we could also use an offensive system and be a offensive juggernaut with Keith, Doughty, Letang, Burns, Subban, and Giordano as our D.

Our D is our best position as we are so deep we are able to comfortably mold it to our system and leave guys like Subban and Letang at home.

Just because I enjoyed putting that roster together so much, I decided to throw together a true team world (Alien race challenges us to a game of hockey all hands on deck).

Tavares-Crosby-Bergeron
Ovechkin-Toews-Kane
Benn-Kopitar-Seguin
Tarasenko-McDavid-Malkin

D - Everyone plays the corect side
Hedman-Karlsson
Keith-Doughty
Josi-Burns

Price
Lundqvist

Obviously very subjective at this point, all these players are so good you can't go wrong. But my team has 7/12 forwards, 3/6 D and 1/2 goalies as Canadians so at least in my mind Canada vs World would be fairly even hockey.

I'm surprised - that's actually a pretty even matchup.

Team Canada is an all-star team, so Team World would probably be competitive, but they definitely wouldn't out-class Canada by any means...
