The other day when the USA had a brief lead over Canada to open the game which lasted a couple of minutes, it was the first time since 2010 that Canada at this level had been trailing in a game. That game was the round robin game in which they lost to the Americans. The rest of the games (Germany, Russia, Slovakia, USA) they never trailed and never trailed for a second in 2014 or the first game in 2016 vs. Czech.

Canada hasn't played anyone with talent since then either. These brackets were rigged so they wouldn't see any competition until the semis. And it worked.

They played all of 2010 Olympic medal round and the entirety 2014 Olympics without trailing. That's the real point here. Not that they managed to lead the Czech Republic all game.

What? Those brackets were based on seeding. Olympics is an IIHF event. Nothing rigged about it.

This core group of Canadian players they've been riding since Vancouver has been exceptional. Offensively the future is bright, but I hope they find the defensive horses they need to replace Keith (Bouw not an equal or long term solution) and Weber down the road. The young talent the US has coming up is going to make for fierce competition in the future as well.

We're seeing a Golden Era from this Canadian generation.

With young talents McDavid, Scheifele, MacKinnon, Ekblad, Rielly, and Parayko to name a few, it appears the Golden Era should continue on well into the 2020s.

The core of this Golden Era began with the 2005-2009 WJC Canadian teams winning 5 consecutive Gold medals. They made up the core of the 2010 and 2014 Olympic teams. Also the core of the 2016 World Cup team, many also played key roles in the 2015 and 2016 IIHF WHC Gold Medal teams.

This truly is a Golden Era, history will be kind to this generation. It's about legacy at this point going forward.

What exactly was rigged? I'll say one thing, Canada winning is NOT something the NHL would want over the Americans winning. In 2002 it was common knowledge that what the NHL would like is a Canadian/American gold medal game in Salt Lake City with the Americans winning. I am not saying they tried to fix that, because they didn't, and it didn't happen anyway. But from a marketing standpoint, they want the Americans to do well every time. It just doesn't always happen.

The NHL knows Canadians will watch the games regardless. If Canada loses a tournament it won't make Canadians lose interest in hockey.

However, Canada played everybody since the round robin of 2010 to the round robin of 2016. I don't know where this easy competition was.

Hopefully Ekblad is that replacement.

Crosby has won the last 22 games he has played for Canada.

**** I just jinxed him.
