They thought they could trap their way to victory. When the score got away, nobody, including the coaching staff knew how to handle the situation.

The shots were lopsided even before the score got away from them, though. I believe when it was only 2-0 Canada, the shots were something silly like 30 to 2 or something.

Did Slovakia forget there was a game tonight?

Forget the score, how does a team of Slovakia's usual caliber only manage six shots on net the entire game? That's the kind of shot differential you expect if Canada's playing Japan, not a decent hockey playing country like Slovakia.

Not only that, they had an extra day of rest. I guess that's why they got half their shots in the 3rd period.

They need to ride this momentum and continue dominating their opponents the way they are. Well done Canada. Goes to show, we don't need big names, although Strome (3rd overall) Dubois(3rd overall) and other 1st rounders will have to carry the team.

Our 97 forward group is probably the worst we have ever had, 98 lost to canada 1-3, 99 lost 2-3 in OT but this game... i couldnt believe my eyes

on to what should be a blowout of a game...let's hope they remain focused and don't pick up any lazy habits for the NY Eve game with 1st. place in the group on the line.

should be a dandy...

already prepping my NY Eve menu...

curious as to what JackSlater has on his menu...any more tasty pulled pork sliders and cabbage rolls?

damn..I'm going to have to roll up to Jack's place one of these years to catch a game.

A total embarrassment
Why allow these bottom feeders in the tournament
Canada cup has it right
This kind of garbage on prime time kills the tournament

They are not bottom feeders, Slovakia is still one of the better hockey countries on the world. It is just that Canada is so good and is able to play an incredibly dominant game. That's stupid logic, you are using here, sorry.

What about Denmark? They just beat Finland yesterday, they are probably even worse than Slovakia, on paper, that's what it is about, part of it, it is to see such a great team efforts, unexpected results, and emotions which these young Danns showed. It's great, it is indisputable part of international tournaments on all levels.

It doesn't kill anything, more like the exact opposite.

An upset. Is a wonderful spectacle but all it does is create a blow out in the next round
I don't know where you are from but we have to endure a telecast network that creates Gods out of the Canadian kids and lopsided games like this are a waste of time
I am not going to cheer for Hundred to one underdog just to ruin a good competitive tournament

Team Canada continues to be undefeated in Toronto. (yep, if you haven't heard that yet, the national team - which includes world juniors, canada/world cups, '72 Summit series, everything - has never in history lost a single game in Toronto, ever)

- this team is going to win gold.

I thought I was the only one who knew that stat. You can even add another win in Toronto during the '74 WHA-Soviet series. It's been an incredible run. Unfortunately, though, the medal round is in Montreal, where Canada's international record over those same tournaments is awful.

The reality is we don't know for sure how these teams stack up until they actually come together and start playing. I didn't think Canada would be this good, and I didn't think a team like Finland would be as bad as they have been. So what do you do? Well, you use a system where you have annual promotion/relegation and let the teams play for their berths in this tournament rather than just having someone decide who they think is a good enough team.

The reality is that smaller hockey nations will always have inconsistent levels of talent in age-restricted tournaments.

I wish Ingram was tested more so he could have shown the country how damn good he is

I really think he could run away being the #1 guy. But now im thinking itll be back to Hart but with a VERY short leash

I know both goalies quite well in the WHL and Im more of a fan of Ingram. Both are unreal, but id be rolling with Ingram

Are you seriously comparing bottom feeders in a age restricted tournament, to bottom feeders at the men's level? The bottom feeders become especially weak in age restricted tournaments. A Slovak team in the World Cup would get more than just six shots...

This Slovakian team is actually pretty talented, but most of their promising players are younger (born in 1998 and 1999). They'll need another year to grow into this tournament.

Adam Ruzicka is a potential 1st round pick for the 2017 draft. As is Samuel Bucek, who unfortunately got injured just prior to the tournament.

Martin Fehervary is one of the youngest players to ever play in the SHL, and could be a 1st round pick in 2018. Milos Roman debuted in the Czech League this season before his 17th birthday. He's another potential early pick for the 2018 draft.

Erik Cernak was drafted quite early by the Kings in the 2nd round and is under contract with them. He's one of the better shutdown D's in the OHL. Radovan Bondra is a PPG player in the WHL this season, and is near the league leaders in goals/game ratio.

Adam Huska was the best goalie in the USHL last season. Matej Tomek is also a good goalie prospect.

Martin Bodak is probably getting drafted in the mid-late rounds in the upcoming draft. Marian Studenic might get selected too.

Slovakia won a bronze medal only two years ago, and they beat the Swedes fair and square. They belong. It's not their fault Team Canada is almighty. Your team has the depth and ability to blowout any opponent in the tournament...

Exactly, but canada was not that good this game, but we were absolutely horrible and the sad thing is that if we will get relegated this year (what is maybe very likely) our "medal contender team" will not play in the elite division..

It's going to be a 50-50 game vs. Latvia. If Huska stands on his head, we're done. Also, you can't rule out the possibility of Denmark ending up in 5th place in their group. They are not as good as Slovakia.

Once you add it all up, you're likely not to get relegated.

It is very unlikely at this point that Denmark ends up 5th. A lot of things would have to line up for Finland.

It's gonna be a totally different game against Latvia, of course, but anyway, this was probably the most embarassing "performance" I have ever seen in the elite division of U20 WJC. Having 6 shots after 60 minutes, 3 of them coming in the last futile minutes... That doesn't belong in the top division, not in 2016.

I agree, regardless if you're playing against Canada or not, Slovaks just didn't look like they cared which is disheartening.

We're lucky Huska is a decent goalie or the score could have been easily 10-0.
