Was expecting a little bit more from Canada. Seems to be a well structured team with no stand out layers. Will have a hard time in this tournament. The same applied to Russia though. I feel Sweden won't have any issues with both.

Good start for the boys...

I hope they keep the intensity level up tonight.

players of the game for me, Barzal, Jost and Myers.

only negative - Hart with a couple of weak ones. gotta find better goaltending than that.

Wasn't a classic Canada v Russia game. but I'll take the W and move on. My guess is we'll probably see the Russians again in the medal rd. and beating such teams twice in 1 tourney is never an easy chore.

Great game.

I'm pleasantly surprised by this group of players. Wasn't overly excited heading into this tourney (just watching for Barzal) but now I have a vested interest in this team.

Sweden did not look good the first few minutes vs Denmark they do that vs Canada or Russia the game is over.

I thought Samsonov played pretty well. Giving up 5 means he could have been better of course, but he made some nice saves and didn't have much of a chance on the ones that went in. 3 PP goals, a breakaway goal and a broken play in the slot, it was more-so good offensive play by Canada and poor defense from those around him that was the issue.

Sergachev had the one goal on a nice shot [I thought Hart should've made the save, though]. Can't say I noticed him a ton out there; made a few plays showing how strong he is but Canada controlled the game for the most part.

He was screened by 2 guys

Why O why, has our goal song become ''We dem boys'' in International tournaments?

Puck Daddy looked at this prior to the World Cup this year. I can only assume the sentiment is still the same with your Juniors team:

So how did a Wiz Khalifa song that was previously best known in Toronto as Aaron Sanchez’s walk-up music in 2015 become Canada’s official World Cup of Hockey anthem?

“I have no comment,†said defenseman Jake Muzzin, with a laugh. “I don’t know. There might have been a discussion. I like that song, though.â€

Forward Steven Stamkos indicated that Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings defenseman and hip-hop fan, may have been the catalyst.

“That might be through Doughty. He was talking about what song we’re going to play,†said Stamkos.

Turns out there’s some history between Hockey Canada and “We Dem Boyz.†The 2015 Canadian World Junior team used it as a goal song, as did the 2016 IIHF world champions from Canada

That team included Canada World Cup players Corey Perry, Brad Marchand and Ryan O’Reilly.

“It’s got a good ring to it. Sounds good when we score,†said Stamkos.

And score. And score. And score. Frankly, some people are tired of hearing it so often in the World Cup of Hockey.

“I hope it gets even moe annoying,†said Stamkos.

I'm not worried at all, Bragin teams have had very slow starts to the tournaments, let alone the debut game against Canada in sold out ACC.

The great thing it is that our boys and coaching staff now know what to expect from Canada.

If we can improve our defensive zone break out and clean out horrible turn overs we should be fine.
