At least in the early goings it obviously seems like something has happened to the team. Do you think Big Joe can regain some of his old form?

I think he could put up 100pt pace this season just like he did after the last lockout, but not 100pts in the shortened season. I'm hopeful this trend could continue into next season (a contract year for Joe), as well. He looked to be in vintage form last night. Was exciting to say the least.

100 points in 48 games? No.

But in all seriousness, no he will not hit 100 points again. He takes on too much defensive responsibility now. But do not assume that he is declining as a player - he has sacrificed some points to become a solid two way player.

I'll say he puts up 45 to 50 points this year.

Expect? No.

You're not going to see 05/06 Joe because his play has evolved to fit the molding of teams like Chicago, Detroit, LA, and St. Louis, where possession and two-way play are emphasized over a full-throttle offense. He has too much defensive responsibility to put up those kind of numbers.

his defensive stick work was crazy against edmonton...if that keeps up i expect him to not be a .500 giveaway/takeaway player..

1 ppg is easy for JT let's aim for 2+ did you see that pass to Patty yesterday JT that was ninja Thornton he can play for 5-6 more years if he stays in top form.

The vision he had on that feed to Marleau in front of the net yesterday was awesome.

Last season, with all his focus on being a two-way player, he had 77 pts in 82 games. I would expect similar production, so we're probably looking at 40-45 pts this season. He'll probably never approach 100 pts in a full 82-game season again.

We've only played two non playoff teams. We will see if he can dominate stronger teams like he has so far but
i wouldnt be surprised if he can get a PPG. I think because of the lockout a lot of players will be on PPG+ pace

If he plays like he has played since the season started, he'll easily be at 1.0-1.2 points per game. With confidence, quick hands, sharp-shooting linemates and great conditioning, he could easily do it. It looks like this will be a big year for him.

If our low lines can contribute and the offensive system continues to click, we could see over 1ppg. Joe has it in him, he is still a master playmaker. He should have been PPG+ last season, came really close despite the ridiculously poor shooting % while he was on the ice.

I think people might be underestimating Marleau's effect on Joe's play in these past two games. Thinking back the past two seasons, would you say it was Thornton not making those passes or Marleau not finishing?

Last season it was pavelski not finishing mostly, not that he didn't get great shots off from ideal locations thanks to joe's setups.

I'd blame Setoguchi or Heatley before Marleau, when it comes to finishing Joe's passes...

Yes that's the point, his linemates finished at a below-average rate last season, which compromised his point totals. Watching the games, he was his usual awesome self for the most part. PPG last season was a matter of 5 more points, which is easily accounted for in that horrendous stretch of luck around the new year.

If they play the Flames and Oilers every night he may break Gretzky's record in just 48 games.

Honestly it's not really going to be up to Joe to break an average of 1 point per game.

If the guys around him are finishing then he will easily accomplish that. His points obviously come on assists so let's hope they keep putting them away like they have in the first 2 games.
