We caught a glimpse of life after Chara (in or near his prime) tonight. 4 more years and 3 more at 7 mil until his cap hit drops to a reasonable 4. He might only have 1 more year left until he goes to Miller's role as a 3rd pairing guy. Sadly I think that is just around the corner.

We've had a really nice run over the last 6-7 years with Boychuk eating a lot of really tough minutes. Isn't perfect but I don't dream of dumping him.

Boychuk gets up to 5 mil a year from me no questions asked. Just try and keep the term 5 years or less and limit NTC/NMCs.

Please God, not 1 more year of Chara in the top 4. It's a disservice to him. He can't handle a playoff run after being relied upon so heavily, and ends up looking bad and getting trashed by the fan base.

Seids/Hamilton
Krug/ Boychuk
Chara/ McQuaid

Please...

Boychuk is a second pairing guy at best. 5m for him is an overpayment. Heavy shot, heavy hits, dumb as a rock on many occasions. And embellishment or not that was a penalty with 4:30 left tonight. Another example of his brain farts.

5m is 2nd pairing salary under the new CBA.

Sure is.

Boychuk deserves what all those guys on the Rangers get. Look at what Dennis Wideman makes or Mike Green.

Chara is falling apart we can't lose Boychuk any time over the next 3-4 years if we do it means playing Z more minutes than he should play.

Fair enough, but I don't give it to him. Dougie will likely command close to that, Krug may as well. He's a good soldier but I don't think he's nearly reliable enough to give that money to.

Just the thought of Boychuk making 1m more than Seidenberg is laughable to me.

It sucks, but what are you going to do?

However, if Dougie demands close to $5m, you give it to him and then suggests that he should take a max term contract at that salary.

Yes, if they can lock Dougie up for 5 over 6/7/8 years I'd be ecstatic. He's 20 years old and clearly on the path to a great career. Grew a lot these playoffs, even with the mistakes he made at times.

We'll see how it shakes out. Guess I'll just hope Boychuk doesn't ask for 5

Boychuk enters next year as our #1 D man.

2a and 2b will be Chara and Seids depending on how each look.

Krug and Dougie aren't great defensively and Miller is just another McQuaid.

No NHL teams are dumb enough to trade a franchise D man like Peitrangelo or Doughty for Boychuk but unless someone like that is joining us I don't see how we can take him out of the equation right now. We need Dougie and Krug's offense, need Miller's low cap hit, and Seids and Chara are enormous question marks with billion dollar contracts.

How the **** do you remove Boychuk after how Z looked???

if we make some tough choices we can possibly afford boychuck but its critically important we don't give him an ironclad ntc. one of chara/Seidenberg/boychuck will need to be moved within a couple years when we begin to pay Hamilton/krug the big dollars and miller/morrow are needing icetime too

for one more year though I want to keep the gang together... and I don't want to lose boychuck as an ufa when the year is done so im in favor of signing him if the contract demand is reasonable

No prob with Boychuk, that said he did take the brutal final penalty that was the nail in the coffin, and it was a stupid one to take. Totally useless play.

This is completely absurd. He may not be an elite #1 but he is still a legit top-pairing d-man at worst. Bottom pairing? Dear lord.

He needs to stay away from the top wingers who have speed. Needs less minutes.

Chara still has a good year or two left and is good parked in front of the net but we have to move on from him as the #1.

There is no hope of him aging gracefully in that role. Isn't fast enough. Hes still going to be productive in a lesser role. Contract is a killer.

I don't really feel like paying for goaltending either though, I'd actually buy out both Rask and Chara and I love both guys.

You'd buy out the probable Norris and Vezina winners from this year? Leaving us with Bergeron as our only other elite player!?

There's no telling how Seids will play when he comes back. I have no idea how bad his knee was supposed to, so I can't comment any further than that. But I do NOT want to see Boychuk as the number one Dman around here. If he's willing to take a serviceable deal, I'd say keep him for another year or two, until we can really get someone like Dougie to come into his own as the next true number one dman.

At this point, I REALLY hope that's Dougie. Chara can't be expected to be the best defenseman anymore. This recent series proved that.

Chara's cap hit is enormous. Im scared of it. Im scared Z won't accept a reduced role because he wants to prove he deserves the C over Bergy.

Rasks a good goalie and worth the cap hit in the regular season but he had a bad post season after losing to a scrub in Crawford in the finals. He needs to win it all in the next 2-3 years or he will go down as a failure in this town.
