Can Shesterkin get the Rangers into the playoffs considering how he has played

I don't know if he can get them into the playoffs all by himself and I can't see this 7-1 pace continuing. But man, he's been outstanding. He got his chance and he just took over. He made Quinn's job very easy. If they care about making the playoffs like the coach says they are, you gotta ride him the rest of the way.

NyR are 5 over .500,
they'd have to beat out at least 3 teams who are currently at 10, 11 or 12 games over
Very unlikely

I voted the 3rd option. I think it's possible yes, but extremely unlikely, and not necessarily a good thing for the team

I just don’t see how that could make up enough points on 4 teams to get there unless they go on a totally absurd run.

The 94 points mentioned above would require Florida and Carolina to get only half the points available to them AND Philadelphia to get less than half. Will all 3 teams play at or below .500 hockey the rest of the way? Very doubtful.

I think it's possible, but we'll end up falling short. A lot depends on what happens regarding trades.

The cutoff right now is 57 games played and 69 points. We are at 55 games played and 60 points. So in theory, we can get within 5 points of the last wildcard with the same number of games played.

Assuming there will be 5 teams from the Metro, that means we have to get ahead of 2 of Philly, Columbus and Carolina. All of these teams have games remaining against each other and against us.

Philly has 2 vs Columbus, 3 vs us and 1 vs Carolina.
Columbus has 2 vs Philly, 2 vs us and 1 vs Carolina
Carolina has 1 vs each.

We'll need to win at least 5 of those 6 games, I would think, to have a realistic shot.

Can he go 16-9-2 the rest of the way? That could sniff the playoffs with 94 points.
Just read or saw something this week, maybe NHL Network?
That it will likely take at least/about 98 points, to get in from the East

Possibly? Yes.

Probably? No.

The Rangers are separated by the 7th worst team in the league by 2 points, they are separated from the playoffs by 8 points.

Those teams on the bubble are likely going to be buyers.

For all the chatter and debate on here, the Rangers are still more likely to be sellers.

If they make the playoffs somehow it'll be because of a lot more than Igor. He'll be a big part of it, but it'll take a lot more up and down the lineup.

If the question is, will Igor's play alone get them into the playoffs if everyone else is average? I'd say no.

Can Igor's play help them get into the playoffs if a handful of other key players are also hot at the same time? Sure.

Having said that, I don't think it's going to happen.

The Rangers would need to win about 18 of the next 27 games to be around the wild card race. I don't think it's out of the question. Depends what team shows up. Last night they played very well. Could go on a nice run if they play Shesty and have the same style of play for a bit. Hamburgler like final 20 games in the works!

Atkinson is out for 2-3 weeks for Columbus. Maybe they slip in the standings without him and Jones.
