I'm opposed to make any move for the Rangers now that we are playing like monsters, but I'm bored so what about:

TJ Brodie for JT Miller + Kevin Klein + small add in picks/prospects?

Brodie seems to be off to a slow start and Miller the opposite, so maybe with our excedent of forwards it's a good moment to think about this trade (not the best moment, with Kreider's unknown injury, but we could survive). Brodie is a heck of a defenseman, and despite of being left handed he has played on the right side a lot.
We would have this D. Again, too many lefties (5/6 if Holden plays), but looks really good, and we will lose Klein anyway:
McDonagh-Brodie (best skating pair of the league easily)
Skjei-Girardi
Staal-Clendening/Holden

It will hurt to lose Miller but we have replacements. It would be better to sign Shattenkirk for free, but maybe it's a better option having Brodie at ~4M than Shattenkirk at ~7M. He's also younger.

The Flames are not trading Brodie.

You might be able to get Hamilton for that though.

I wouldn't trade that for Hamilton.

Personally, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wouldn't trade JT Miller. He's starting to round himself into one hell of a player. He's still young, has gotten faster, stronger, has an excellent hockey IQ and is finally starting to bring that compete level that makes him an absolute handful to play against on a nightly basis.

Doesn't Brodie play the left side or did I imagine that? I know we moved Skjei to the right side, but it's probably a mistake to trade away a Right D, and JT Miller, while replacing them with a Left D. No way would I trade that away for Hamilton, and I don't see the flames trading Brodie anyway.

Brodie is LHD that prefer to play RD, but it's all moot since Brodie is going nowhere

Brodie has been moved to the left by GG in an effort to round out his game (I hear) and he has absolutely floundered there. It doesn't help the rest of the team can't pitch in to support and help out. He's a left shot RD, but seems quite lost playing LD.

But yeah, not trading him.

But that is just it.

You know nothing about Miller...

Just wait.

I don't know if it's really undervaluing JT Miller than it is fit. He's a LW, we need 1RW more than LW. No one (err, maybe one borderline comment) has insulted Miller as a player. They just say they wouldn't move Dougie for that package.

I mean, I can swap video games with the next guy and get great value. But if I own a PS4 and the games are all Xbox... value doesn't mean much because I cannot utilize it properly.

Moving Hamilton or Brodie would cause a problem on the blue line that many of us believe is costlier to fix than the value we'd get from Hamilton or Brodie.

That has nothing to do with it, it is the fact that the Flames already need defensive help before moving a blueliner. Creating a gaping hole on an already poor blueline on a team with several good young forwards just makes no sense.

Love how once Hamilton's name gets out there, the better player/contract Brodie starts getting into offers.

He's our best defenseman and we need him. He's definitely not available.

Also Miller is destroying right now. Why mess with success?

Stepan + cap dump for Brodie if we go that way

I'd trade Brodie for that. Kevin Klein is awesome and would stabilize our back end and jt Miller would be our second best forward to Johnny hockey

Edit: I actually love this deal. Miller would compliment gaudreau so well imo

Kevin Klein is getting old. And for all we know he's on a hot streak and he's more the 20 goal scorer from last year. Who knows.

By doing this we leave a huge hole in the d over the next few years.
