Minor deal.

To Dallas:

Tyler Wotherspoon

To Calgary:

Brett Ritchie

Both are 2011 2nd rounders having trouble cracking their respective NHL clubs due to depth at position, swap may change their fortunes.

I think we add a little. Ritchie has the higher potential to make an impact in the NHL whereas Wotherspoon is the safer choice of the two.

Wotherspoon is even less likely to make it on the Stars. Not because of his playing ability but because he'd be the #9 D.

Hemsky, Sharp, and Hudler are UFAs and Nichushkin's situation is up in the air so Ritchie is at the top of the 2017 depth chart. Moving him for a 9th defenseman is just awful.

Dallas passes. They have more than enough guys that can fill out that bottom pairing, no reason to add Wotherspoon. Especially at the cost of Ritchie.

The wings are our weakest position in the pipeline and D pushing to make the roster is probably our deepest by a wide margin. Rather keep Ritchie, we already have 8-9D , no point in adding one more who likely doesn't make the team

No thanks. There are two defenders on Calgary I'd be interested in acquiring, and neither of them will move for anything we'd be willing to offer.

Don't see a good deal between these two teams, at least at those positions.

They traded us Jokipakka whom we think we will lose in the expansion draft. I don't think they want Wotherspoon.

Stars don't really need young unproven defenseman. We have plenty of those outselves . We basically gave one away to the Flames for free in Jokkipakka and still have too many.

Ritchie has high upside and they don't need more D prospects. Value wise it's a no go for Dallas, and need wise as well
