Cage problems

Hello again,

I purchased an Easton E700 helmet a few months back and put an Oakley visor on it for ball hockey.

Fast forward a couple months and now I need to put a cage on it for Ice hockey (I like my teeth too much to wear a visor). Anyways, I naturally bought the E700 cage in the same size as my helmet (Medium), however after a long battle with trying to install the cage a problem occurred.

When fully strapped on the chin cup does not rest on my chin. This is obviously a problem and I have tried multiple thing to move my jaw forward in the helmet:

-Various different J clips
-Adjusted helmet sizing
-Tightened cage straps

Anyone else have this problem? Would going down to a small in the cage still fit on my medium helmet? Any recommendations on cages with a smaller profile?

Any suggestions are helpful!

I've got the E600 and tried a few cages. Here's a thread with pics. The E700 cage seems to run long...I ended up with a Bauer Reakt and it's a much better fit.

Will going to the small size in the e700 cage solve anything?

There's a couple benefits...the Easton helmets are super light and the Reakt cage is the lightest available, so there's less pull from the cage and weight overall. And like I said, it's not as tall as the Easton so less chance of hitting your chest with it.

I got a medium helmet and a large cage. I don't like the chin touching the cup. Maybe it's not the safest, but it's a no-check league and I very rarely get contact to the head. The cage is still on without hardly any hang on I'm fully protected from sticks and pucks, but there is a slight gap which is fine for me.

Comparatively, the Easton E700 cage in large was well below my chin and the Bauer 9900 in medium was just above my chin.

Yes going down to a small cage would help solve your problem. It is not uncommon for people to have a different size cage from their helmet as a helmet fits the size of your head and a cage fits the length of your face.

Have had plenty of kids with large heads require a large helmet but a junior cage. Even though combo helmets are cheaper than adding a cage onto a helmet they use the same size cage as the helmet so sometimes there are fit issues.

Also I agree with Jarick, e700 and re-akt cage is the lightest combo you can find. Feels like you aren't wearing anything.

Yeah, I've always worn medium helmets but have had medium and large cages.

I've got the E400 with the ReAkt cage. Great, super light combo.

I have to chime in a +1 on the reakt cage, i have mine mounted to a large bauer 5100 and a large reakt cage, fantastic cage. You barely notice it, also it has great visibility.

I'd say ray sizing down your cage. I use a large E600 helmet with a medium CCM FM580 cage. The large one hung too low while the medium fit right on my chin (both had the same width so it fit fine with my large helmet).

i find it more comfy to have the chin cup off of my chin. plus, you get 5 style points for the dirty cage hang.
