That doesn't make much sense to me.

The Avs resting players was resting Mack, Makar, Toews, Nichushkin, and Lehkonen

The Stars resting players was resting 2 4th liners

Just weird to play your top guys with everything already set.
To be honest, it's truly bizarre. Of the two teams, Colorado and Bednar are the ones who have been accused on multiple occasions (by us) of overplaying the top players and working them to death, while we have long envied the deployment that Dallas uses in terms of spreading minutes. Guess that philosophy doesn't touch all corners for either club

In a true Bizarro world/alternative reality, both DeBoer and JB are fired and then hired by the opposing clubs as their new HCs.

Will Nichushkin be ready for game one?

Yes, why wouldn’t he be?

He was rested in the last game of the season. He’s been a full participant in practice this week on the second line.

The only injury doubt for Colorado is Ryan Lindgren who left practice after 15 minutes yesterday. Bednar stated Lindgren is the only concern to not be fully healthy for game 1.

Not buying that Dallas is dead in the water. The 7 game losing streak could be moping through a long season with rankings almost assured. This negativity could rally them. It's not a fait accompli.
Losing game 1 (again) would be a much bigger hill to climb, due to the possible absences of Miro and Robertson.

Meh, sign of the times......and Rantanen's one of the few in the league who would fit the bill, IMO. Especially with the cap finally creeping towards 100mil.

How many wingers have a better resume?

How many wingers have played their entire career with one of the best players in the last 25 years?

He's still a good player, but I think the Mackinnon factor inflated his value pretty significantly, and Dallas was not in the best position to acquire him with how their team is currently constructed. I think 4 picks, Stankoven, and $12m cap space would be better for this team in the next 8 years

But the die is cast

Stankoven is a 40 point winger though.. who is 5'7.

Dallas is becoming this decade's San Jose Sharks. Will make the playoffs every year and "challenge" but will never get over the hump.

He put up 41 points in his first 82 career games. He probably maxes out at 65 points in a season, but he's $900k and then a couple more years of $3m or so. The $9m difference for ~20 extra points for Rantanen is better spent elsewhere (like next year: Granlund and Duchene)

Rants is a great player but in terms of bang for buck to try and win the SC, I would have instead invested the team’s assets to bolster their D. But in terms of leading the Stars to the SC this season, I think Rants is a chimera.

This is probably the most pessimistic I've been about the Stars going into the playoffs in a long time and that doesn't even factor in the opponent. Just been playing awful hockey for a while.

Shots aren't everything, but they haven't outshot a team since Anaheim on March 18th, 15 straight games. Some of the games being badly outshot too like EDM 44-24 and CAL 48-19. Stars won 7 straight during that stretch, but never looked like a dominant team to me.

The injury to Heiskanen just exposed and overextended the rest of the stars d man (barring Harley) and now they are all worn down. The forwards have talent, but I don't see much of a system anymore. Might be that DeBoer has run his course, or maybe of lack of puck moving D to help start out.

If they were playing a team who just snuck into the playoffs I'd have more hope for them to turn it around, but don't really have any wiggle room vs a good team like Col.

I think Colorado takes this in 7. They're a much deeper team this year and with their captain back, they're going to have the extra boost. Colorado is not a good 1st round opponent for Dallas.
