Long long time Blues fan here. Really hard not to like this Winnipeg team and a shame that we are facing them in the first round. When I thought we were not making it to the post-season, was really hoping that this was their year. Physical heavy team that wears you down on forecheck and then hits you back on counter. If they prevail in this series, there going to be a lot of 3-1 , 4-2 type scores. Lots of pressure on Hellybuck obviously which is only increased by the fact that he is squaring off against Binnington. Best case scenario for the Blues and worst case scenario for Jets is a game 1 steal by the visitors. If that happens, stress level is going to rachet up significantly for the Jets and Helly in particular.

Allow this Blues fan to be the first to welcome you to HF! There's a lot of good discussion on our forum as well, so if you're curious and willing to talk with people and excited to learn new things every day, you're welcome here.

Is there a better name in hockey right now than Jimmy Snuggerud?

Holloway was one of the best forwards on Edmonton in their run last year. What the hell are you talking about "improve his performance"? He's already shown he's a playoff performer in his very short career, but I understand you're likely one of those people that only pays attention to how many goals or assists someone put up.

It's fine if thats the case, but that just means your opinion becomes irrelevant during actual conversations.
he was fine, but he was tied for 11th on the team on scoring. He has room for improvement

I think the Blues will be able to steal a couple games in this series but I'm not expecting much more than that. Without Holloway the forwards look out of sync, and while Snuggerud hasn't played bad, he still doesn't have the chemistry that Schenn & Kyrou had with Holloway.

Jets just seem marginally better at pretty much every aspect here although I think maybe the blues have a slight advantage in offense from their defense since the addition of Fowler.

This is probably the second or third least interesting series from a national perspective as well, so expect to get crap start times all around.

It's too bad the Blues didn't enter the Pacific bracket. They could have done some real damage there. Winnipeg in 7 :(

It really sucks for St. Louis, but I think the Jets are pissed after last year's crumble and will give everything they've got to win round 1 (at the very least!).

I'm going with Winnipeg in 7. Should be a really fun series!

I take the Blues goaltending and D core slightly over the Jet's, but Winnipeg has the upperhand when it comes to the forwards. If Winnipeg loses both Ehlers and Viladri, then that would offset the absence of Holloway for St. Louis.

My prediction: Jets in 6.

This is an interesting matchup. I give the upper hand to the Jets for forwards, Blues for defense. But goaltending is where I'm split. Both Binnington and Hellebuyck are great goalies but Helly has struggled in the playoffs multiple times and Binnington is a hothead and can get rattled sometimes.

I picked Blues in 6 but I won't be surprised if it's the Jets in 6 either

If Holloway gets back in time, Blues in 7. Binnington beat Helle at 4nations and does it again here, he's a playoff performer.

You could say this is a tough draw for Winnipeg but I actually think the opposite. Exactly the kind of 1st Rd opponent you want to setup a long run. Wild and my Flames are pretenders, and not even very convincing ones IMO. Winnipeg could probably win a series half assing it against them.

The Blues on the other hand are good and deep enough that the Jets need to lock in and show they're for real right away. They've been a very focused group this year and I expect them to continue that and take this series in 6 games, all but one of them close.

For the Jets I think they need a breakout playoff performance from Samberg and Pionk. I think Morrissey is the best defenseman in this series, but Fowler and Parayko can also break a game open.

Old man Suter vs Old man Schenn will be interesting to see if younger faster players on either side can get the edge on them.

Centers, Blues have a better top 2. Adam Lowry might be able to equalize the series depending on who his wings are.

Both 4th lines are going to get some heavy forechecks and hits.

This could be a statement series for either goalie.

I think it goes 7.

STL has been great since the 4 Nations, finding themselves as a team. Unfortunately, they are playing, arguably, the best team in the NHL. The only thing wrong with the Jets is their history of underperforming in the playoffs.
