Doubt it. Seems he's really feeding off of Hynes.

no
it's the opposite.

I don't think Gourde has NHL potential. In fact, I see more NHL potential in Phillip-Michael Devos than in Gourde. He's just the perfect junior player.

but who knows. I thought the same thing about David Desharnais and I was wrong.

Yeah man, the guy scoring 114 goals over the last 3 seasons is feeding off the overager with his first major point season. :help:

Gourde scored at a point-per-game last season, which is the same pace as Hynes....

When Hynes was 17, I think there could be an argument made that Devos had a lot to do with his numbers. I'd say that was a factor last year too.

Speaking just from the way the two play, Hynes is the trigger man, Gourde is the playmaker (the same role Devos played when he was with Victo).

And Devos has split his season playing in the ECHL and the AHL, just as I suggested in the article for Gourde...

Just for comparison, here's how some recent overagers that finished top 3 in scoring have fared:

2011: Philip-Michael Devos - AHLer
2011: Gabriel Levesque - ECHLer
2009: Yannick Riendeau - ECHLer
2009: Dany Masse - AHLer
2008: Francis Pare - AHLer
2007: Thomas Beauregard - ECHLer
2006: Maxime Boisclair - Sub-AHL minor leaguer

2011: Jason Akeson - AHLer
2010: Luke Pither - AHLer
2009: Justin DiBenedetto - AHLer

2011: Tyler Johnson - AHLer
2009: Casey Pierro-Zabotel - ECHLer
2008: Colton Yellow Horn - CHLer (central hockey league)
2006: Troy Brouwer - NHLer
2005: Tim Konsorada - Sub-AHL minor leaguer

He didn't finish top 3 at 20 (he was at 5) but ...

David Desharnais - NHLer 1st line center

He didn't finish as a top scorer but...

Alexandre Burrows - NHLer 1st line winger

...

Cedrick Desjardins - Goaltender dominating the AHL for 3rd season in a row.

No doubt a team will take a gamble on him and sign him.

He'll need to adapt is game though. Plays a lot of east-west hockey and can dangle pretty easily through heavy traffic. Terrific skills.

Has good speed too but relies more on skills and puck movement to create openings and passing lanes.

Pretty tough kid as well, he can hang in there. Often seen guys try to hit him end up on their ass.

Overall very good offensive player, but still a long way from the NHL. Will need to figure a lot of things out about his games and how to use his assets at the next level.

This is all I could find for gourde. Due to expansion (extra 22 nhlers) could gourde be one of the fringe guys that slips into the NHL?

That Whl list look alot better now than in 2012

Gourde is a really creative player, it'll be interesting to see if someone like him or Andy Miele can get a look with an expansion team and run with it. Maybe Jonathan Marchessault too, if he can't stick with the Bolts.
