Drafted in the 6th round in 2016...169th overall. Good size at 6'1 and 190 LBS

Off to a great start in college....22 points in 15 games as a freshman.

He is 2nd in freshman scoring, 1st in 2016 draft picks scoring, 9th overall in college scoring. For comparison:
Tage Thompson 18 points in 17 games
Tyson Jost 17 points in 16 games
Henrik Borgstrom 16 points in 14 games
Brock Boeser 16 points in 13 games

Any non-Flyers fans out there that watch college hockey that can comment on his play??

Watched him the other day and I think he's a solid player for a 19yo FR and pick in the 6th round.

Pretty good hands and vision, and he knows where to be offensively. He's a very good skater too. One thing that stands out with him is his high end wrist shot and release. He kind of reminds of me of Jack Eichel out there.

Defensively, he looks like he was quite aware of the players around him, though he doesn't seem to be overly hungry to hound the puck. When he does get the puck though, you know he wants to do something with it.

This was just based off the one game I watched so if I can, I'll try to watch more games.

Lol...so 383 people have no clue who he is and have not seen him play this year.

:sarcasm:

Edit: thanks for the info OLP.

Was named to one of the 16 USA WJC training camp spots for forwards. Maybe people will start to notice him.

In the past I've heard that his skating is his worst attribute, so now I have no idea what to believe haha. I haven't been able to see him play yet so I can't comment but with his production so far, I'm not sure what this kid brings to the table.

It is without a doubt his biggest weakness to me the several times I've seen him. He's got a good hockey mind, so he usually finds a way to be in position in both ends, but he has a case of cement feet at times, where he's just not moving his feet. And when he does, his first steps need quite a bit of work. In stride and when he's moving his feet, he shows some average speed though. He's quite upright, and that might have a lot to do with it.

If I can watch Nick Cousins this season suddenly look like a more explosive skater, then I'm convinced Laczynski isn't that far gone where some dedicated training and power skating work can't do the trick. I don't think Laczynski is just a slow skater.

Laczynski is tied for 3rd in NCAA scoring. 1 point back of 1st. Which is especially impressive considering Ohio State is 28th in goals per game as a team. This kid is really underrated and going to be a very solid NHL player.

He’s accounting for 45% of Ohio State’s offense right now. I think that’s a lot? They’re such a bland team offensively with their systems, most of their top players have regressed in scoring, but he’s improved in spite of it. Leads the team in every stat worth mention. Just a very well balanced, pro type player that is going under the radar. Should hopefully turn pro this spring.

1 goal and 4 assists in the weekend series vs. Penn State.

He sits 2nd in NCAA scoring this season.

Yeah I think he gets lost in the abundance of good Philly prospects for sure. I know this gets over talked about, but could see him waiting out the 4 years because of the Philly logjam .

It will be interesting to see where he goes in August. I don't expect him to sign with the Flyers.

The Buckeyes tied the game in the second on an unassisted Tanner Laczynski goal. On the penalty kill, Laczynski battled for the puck along the boards by the Buckeye blueline. His stick was held going into the zone but he was able to get to get free, drive the net and score. The tally was his seventh of the season, his team-best 20th point of the year, and his first career shorthanded score.

He'll be 23 in his first pro season.

Not usually a successful route to success. Wish he had turned pro 2 years ago.

Cool Flyers got him signed

He's a decent prospect, who will impress coaches with a good motor.
His line with Meyers and singleton I think it was, were just hard working strong line.

If he makes it to the squad it will probably be for his versatility.

Making the Flyers will be tough. Nice to have layers of depth coming:

Giroux Couts Jake
JVR Hayes Konecny
Frost Patrick Farabee
Raffl Laughton Aube-Kubel

Then have Laczynski, Bunnaman, Vorobyev, Twarynski, Kase, Rubstov fighting to bump someone or be the 1st call up when an injury occurs.

Don't forget Ratcliffe. He'll continue to get better and has a higher ceiling than all those guys that will be fighting for the callup.
