Bergeron comparison is a comparison of playing style and if you watch Wright's defensive zone play, combined with his offensive skill, it's reasonable.

As for the other bit, it's not the worst thing I've seen him write. In 2017, he said Cale Makar and Erik Brannstrom were "the same player"

Anyhow, I'll repeat what I wrote earlier, as you appear to have missed it. He is not always right (no scout is) but him saying Wright's playing style compared to Bergeron's was a hell of a lot more accurate than some of the ones I've seen on this board.

Wright was a powerful skater with great straight line speed and elite shooting capabilities who floated around the ice when he didn't have the puck. The stylistic comparison makes no sense.

Hilariously? Dude, it was Kyle Woodlief of Red Line Report. I mean, you can disagree with him all you want, but the guy has pretty good track record for evaluating talent. Every scout makes mistakes, of course, but this guy makes a living at this. People pay him for his scouting reports.

The playstyle difference is precisely why the Bergeron - Wright comparison was ridiculous. And I mean it literally, it deserved ridicule.

He didn't have Bergeron's sense about where to be and he was the polar opposite from Bergeron in terms of ability to win the battle. Bergeron didn't just passively outthink opponents, he was engaging quickly, digging in for body position and lifting sticks and otherwise being physically engaged. Wright was one of the most contact-averse top draft prospects I can recall. He would very often lose his balance under light contact. I would say Wright looks much more natural now, he's improved his balance and strength and most importantly become much more aggressive with the puck. But he looks like a scoring line center prospect not like a future Selke candidate.

Looks like he's taking the Lafreniere path. Willing to grind, willing to go to the front of the net, engages the defensemen. He's a big guy and I think this style of play will suit him better than a Pettersson-style of play.

The real bottom line: You can't make a full and accurate assessment of a draft class until at least five years later. I am amused by all the self-annointed experts who seem to think it's possible after a little more than two. (Some of the real geniuses were even able to do it sooner!)

I can tell you that not many Kraken fans are feeling bad about him right now. He's developing well and improving year to year. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a little scoring breakout soon.

As Hab fans we really should know better then to write guys off based on their first year or couple of years.............we just went through that with Slavkovsky after his rookie year.

How can we forget all the moaning and groaning from knee jerk reaction posters here who called him a bust after his inaugural season and it was non stop " should have drafted Cooley you bozos" posts on here left and right. That all looks pretty silly now.

It's just too early to write him off yet and say he was drafted too high at this point, like another poster here mentioned, you need about 5 years before you can legitimately make a call like that.

And I'm far from Wrights biggest fan.

Funny how Wright takes all the doom and gloom while there’s not a single peep about Beniers’ pathetic production in absurdly favourable usage while being considerably older. It is near-unbelievable that anybody could deserve those OZ and PP1 minutes and produce so little in today’s NHL. If he’s given the chance, there’s a decent chance that by the end of the season Wright is Seattle’s top C going forward. Kid is 20 years old - maybe everyone should wait to see what he can do with 18+ minutes of premium OZ and PP1 usage in a couple years before drawing conclusions on what he can ultimately become.

And there are several other players (Minten, Beck, Kulich or Casey) who are at least Wright's equal in potential.

Jiricek actually might not go as high as he went in a redraft, bumpy start to his career for sure.

Of course like Wright..........way too early to make a call on him either.

I've been one of Wright's biggest critics, but he's pretty comfortably top 10-15 at this point. He had a great progression year last season and hasn't looked out of place this year.

I'm not sure what the Flyers got in a trade for Cutter Gauthier has to do with what level of player Wright and gautheir actually turn out to be.

We are talking about what the players have shown thus far to make a call on what they can or will become...............................and you are using a guy like gauthier who currently has zero points in 5 games to make your case.

I gotta ask, is what the flyers received in a trade for gauthier your proof he will end up the better player? Because for sure you can't be basing it on actual production.

Gauthier has done f*** all in that regard so far.
