Late birthday, 6’1” centre-man enjoyed a 4 point effort yesterday in the U17’s and has 6 points in as many games so far in The tournament. He is very raw, a good skater, one may even say he is deceptively fast, at times it’s as if he hits the Nos and starts flying. He already is good at battling for body positioning, it is apparent in the goal blow where is drives to the outside, gains body positioning and beats the Swedish netminder. He defenitly looks like he could be a modern day power forward in the future and should be on teams radars come the 2025 draft. It’ll be interesting to see how things play out going forward.

His skating is tough to get a grip on for me. I think he’s good when he gets going, but lacks a little quickness and change of direction. He’s a very N-S style of player. I think he’s a good player, but more of a gritty style of bottom lines player than a real offensive driver.

He looks like a guy who could climb into the first round over the next season plus if he can improve his skating (agility + first step). He's raw still but has tools to be excited about if he can put them all together.

I know I’m a homer, but he could benefit from the exposure in the OHL to climb to that next level

He's a late birth year from a state where the kids don't grow up in a college hockey hotbed like they do in Minnesota, Michigan, or the Northeast. I have no inside knowledge but if London were to pull an NTDP guy after their 2 years at the program, he seems like a prime target.

St. Louis is seeing a bit of a resurgence in terms of producing hockey talent as of late, especially going back to the 2016 draft. Matty Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, Logan Brown, Luke Kunin, and Trent Frederic all have ties to the area from that draft.

That group went different directions: Tkachuk n Brown to the OHL, Keller, Kunin and Frederic to the NCAA.

Committed to Michigan State. They're on a roll on the recruiting trail.

I'm really interested to see how Vansaghi looks this season. By no means did he have a standout U17 season but he's pretty young, he's now 6'2 207, and he showed some flashes last season that get you excited about his potential. He's very raw though and those flashes will need to find consistency for it to matter. But if his game can find the next level things could get interesting.

Am I wrong to say they’ve been out-recruiting Michigan recently for players that have not yet started their college hockey careers?

Vansaghi needs work on his skating. Don’t see him playing center either, but he could end up a round 2-4 player for his draft.

Nope. Michigan's 2023 class was very pedestrian and their 2024 class is the same. State's 2023 class was excellent and while their 2024 class is not as good as their 2023 class, it's still better than Michigan's. Michigan does have some hyped names (Michael Hage, Cole McKinney) in the future but too early to know if the hype means much yet.

So far not good. Pointless in the first six games.

The U17s are looking ROUGH. They lost 6-2 at home to Green Bay on Friday and then 12-0 at Youngstown on Saturday.

This always happens when they go against USHL competition at the start of their junior careers. There's like 10 total 2007 born players that'll play a full season taking a regular shift in the USHL not counting the NTDP players, so it's very common that they get their asses kicked by older players. Once they reach the following season, they've gotten a lot better, and will win most of their games. This is the same story every year at the NTDP.

Any chance he ends up in London?
Better chance than most due to when his birthday is, but I think it’s unlikely. He’s one of the NTDP players that could use the extra USHL season before college. For others having no great place to play that draft year might force them to the OHL with London, but he’s not like some projected first or second round pick.

Is he projected to go 3rd-5th?

Don't want to be too critical because I think someone will pick him once we get to 2025 due to being big, physical, and gritty, but his skating needs a lot of work and I don't think he has the puck game for any more than 4th line in the NHL. Not progressing well since he got to the NTDP.

The feet are bad, but he's got skill. He shows flashes of hands and shot. Not enough for me to be too excited about him, but he's got power forward upside. Still another year for him to show what he can do in possibly a more prominent role. I think a year in the USHL before Michigan State would be good for him.

I agree. He could get buried at MSU next year. Not ideal for draft stock. Scoring more in the USHL next year than say Ben Kevan would help his stock.

Vansaghi wasn't selected in the USHL phase II draft where guys like Pardue, Baker, McMorrow, LVV, Epperson all were. I'm reading that as an indication he's playing at MSU next year. I think that could be a mistake if so. He played bottom 6 with no powerplay time with the u18s and would likely be the same at MSU. He's got enough skill to be interesting from a draft perspective, but not enough that would lock him into any sort of prominent role. A year in the USHL being a go to player would have been best for his development in my view.

Unless it means he's going OHL route.
