A couple of months ago I decided to start scouting some of the 2009’s out of Ontario. Lee was one of the more anticipated players I wanted to watch. Got to watch a game a couple of weeks ago and meant to post a thread but just forgot, here it is now though with my notes from the game.
Man what a treat it is to watch this player. He is incredible and is a clear step above his age group. His team lost the game but it wasn’t because of lack of chances from Lee. He was everywhere. Anytime he was given open ice he was gone, beating defenders to the outside consistently with his speed - fending them off using strong body positioning and great balance then making a move towards the net for a scoring opportunity. Lee is a fantastic skater, both laterally and in a straight line, he showcased this all night. He was consistently carrying the puck around the perimeter of the offensive zone while doing the 10-2 (Mohawk) stride before passing it off to a teammate, or making a cut towards the middle of the ice. He has great anticipation for the play at hand, was always in position to receive the puck then carry the puck up ice through transitions, he would use great deception to get defenders to bite then blow by them. He was also back defensively to thwart most chances. He is very strong on his skates and doesn’t shy away from physical contact, he was below the net on multiple occasions with a defender draped over him and he was able to move the puck to one of his defenders along the point. Great poise to his game also, has a clam demeanour and never looks flustered. He had a goal, it came on the PP where he made a cut to the middle of the ice and just wired it home above the goalies blocker. Very promising kid going forward.
